Three times World Champion Vishwanathan Anand's nationality has been questioned by the Indian Government.
Panasianbiz.com reportsThe controversy arising, from a confusion has been calmed down. It was being said that the chess champion denied doctorate degree because the Government of India, questioned his nationality.
But, according to the Human Resources Development Minister, Kapil Sibal, everything has come back to normal. Sibal claims that he has apologized Anand for this and the latter has agreed to receive the doctorate degree. The University of Hyderabad would be honoring the World Chess Champion with the degree.
Before any University awards the doctorate degree, it has to take the approval from the HRD Ministry of External Affairs for the foreign awardees. But the University of Hyderabad did not inform the Ministry that there were any names of foreign nationals in the list as well.
The HRD Ministry was informed that Anand, along with his wife lived in Spain and was the Spanish national. That’s the reason, why this question arose. But now the matter is sorted out and the champion would soon be called – Dr Vishwanathan Anand.
