First we had Congressman John Murtha accusing US Marines of atrocities in Haditha, Iraq - a blatant lie based on false information supplied by the enemy. Those Marines had to face an arduous multi-year trial despite the obvious fabrication of evidence, and it is still not over for some. Next we have the Obama administration seeking to soothe Muslim fears about "backlash" after a Muslim Major commits the first successful act of terrorism on our soil since 9/11, while they withhold evidence about the case from Congress and do lmore to suppress than investigate the nature of the attack. Now we have the spectre of seeing three U.S. Navy SEALs arrested because the terrorist they captured claims he was punched!
Who is the enemy here? Four SEALs captured Ahmed Hashim Abed, codenamed "Objective Amber" on September 3rd. Abed was the ringleader of the group who ambushed four security contractors in Fallujah in 2004, and hung their burned bodies on a bridge. One of the four, Scott Helvenston, had been a Navy SEAL himself for twelve years.
But now Abed is claiming he got a bloody lip. Boo hoo! And the Navy is prosecuting! These people are insane! Give the SEALs a medal for a dangerous, thankless job well done, and suggest that Abed get on his knees and thank God he wasn't captured by someone else.
What I want to see is an investigation of the Navy legal team and the chain of command that ordered and condoned this arrest. This aggressive prosecution of battlefield events, where enemy terrorists are treated as "witnesses" to a "crime" has always looked more like a deliberate strategy to hamstring warriors and thwart battlefield success rather than merely the misguided application of political correctness.
SEALs are not cops, and no military force operating on a battlefield should be forced to adopt law enforcement procedures for capturing terrorists. These are not purse-snatchers! If the military has adopted such mindless guidelines for handling enemy killers, then it is the military's policy that needs to be examined, not the actions of warriors in battle. And if this policy has filtered down from political leadership, as it probably has, then their fitness for office need to be seriously questioned.
At best these should be considered vindictive prosecutions, but I believe something much more malevolent is at work. I believe the person or persons who find cause here seek to sow doubt, demoralization and bring unbearable stress to bear on front line forces. They are covert agents of our enemies, saboteurs working behind the lines to undermine battlefield effectiveness, and should be investigated as such.
When they are uncovered and exposed, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Treason in battle is worthy of execution. But it would be enough to see them stripped of rank and summarily dismissed - perhaps into the tender mercies of Fallujah's Ba'athists. I am sure they would get a warm welcome.
Outrage doesn't begin to describe this travesty.
I'm sure this administration will applaud the Navy's efforts to achieve justice for poor Abed, since they are all about applying law enforcement standards and extending US citizens' civil rights to foreign terrorists. With their superior global awareness, they will surely want these SEALs given a fair trial in an appropriate setting. To demonstrate their evenhandedness to the terrorists, they'll probably choose GITMO.
This subversive element within our government, this leftist, anti-American cabal destroying our country from within needs to go! Right now!

Wtch for "New Dawn" in bookstores in May. It tells the complete story of the battles for Fallujah.

This is by-God outrageous. What are the "powers that be" thinking?
Thanks Jim for bringing this to our attention.
I am a disabled Veteran and I am appalled by the recent decision to prosecute 3 Navy SEALS that helped to capture Ahmed Hashim Abed who masterminded the capture, mutilation, and murder of 4 Americans working in Fallujay in 2004. For our Military, and all of us that call ourselves Americans, to allow this to go on is truly a sad, sad day in America. I was fortunate enough to have served in SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team one in Coronado and met Scott Helvenston several times in the late 1980s. He was one of the 4 killed in Fallujay. His death is now made worse by this asinine prosecution.
Every person in this country is now more in danger than they were last week. We have elected an administration that has chosen to prosecute our hard working military men and women for protecting us and let all the terrorists in the world know that if caught, we will give you a nice bed, a civilian trial and send our military men to jail for giving them a bloody lip!
Thanks all for your comments. It is an outrage. You can reach the Overseas IG office by e-mail, here: IG.Hotline@me.navy.mil. (Thanks Danny.) I sent them a blistering letter. I believe this offensive by military prosecutors is a deliberate effort to hobble our fighting ability and spirit, and these people should be investigated for vindictive prosecution.
I'm speechless!
Maybe the next team of seals or other soldiers will learn from this the next time they stumble upon some high vale jihadi scumbag target and just drop him where he stands, and then go have lunch.
lol
Why is a terrorist tattle tailing on the Seals for punching him?
Are you a news paper or an opinion rag? 'Cause you left out an important detail that kinda changes the entire perspective of this story.
The Seal team's lead is the one who initiated charges. There's more to this than what's in your story, so why not let the details filter through the cloud of angst and fear you're spreading and allow some facts to dictate the news. Using this as some sort of soap box to foment anger and outrage at the president is disingenuous and false. The charges originated from within the organization of the navy Seals themselves.
One other thing, Navy Seals are NOT cops. They are warriors. The very best we have. We ought not put them in a position to have to act like cops and therefor be scrutinized like cops. You should be shaking your fist at Bob Gates.
It requires a people bent on self-destruction for this to stand.

There are no words to describe the anger that I feel for this definite miscarriage of the military justice system. Dan in Potter, irregardless of who filed these bogus charges the fact remains that certain people including this useless administration are hell bent to placate the Muslims so that they will like us. This is the most ignorant thinking anyone could imagine, you can't negotiate with people that will kill you without provocation. The liberals of this country will rue the day when we the people seek our retribution to bring this country back to the republic it once was.
I'm shaking-that's how damn mad I am! Thanks for the email address Jim, because the I won't let the sun set until I send them a message telling them how despicable this act is. And good for those Seals who chose a court martial rather than take a slap on the wrist which again shows their true character. Anyone who is paying the slightest bit of attention will understand it is the intention of this Socialist administration to undermine and demean our US Military. It's an outrage. It's treasonous. It's Un-American. It's SOCIALIST!! I'm angry beyond explanation. Thanks for sending this out and I will definitely be sure all my fellow patriots get the email address as well. And for some "good" reading, pick up a copy of LONE SURVIVOR by MARCUS LUTTRELL. It's an eyewitness account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of Seal Team 10. Mr. Lutrelll is still trying to recover from the wounds he suffered from that action. WAKE UP AMERICA!
Ahmed Hashim Abed is still breathing?! It won't happen again...
Don't worry my brothers and sisters....our time is near....
Do we know if this is true? I've only heard about it through this rag and right wing FoxNews. Is there any REAL news agency reporting it? No Associated Press, no legit news agency. Sounds like right wings propaganda!
Drew, Drew. So CBS is a "legitimate" news source? Well if it makes you feel better, they've reported it too. A little hint: the military confirmed the veracity of the report to Fox News. You don't have to believe Fox to believe a military spokesperson do you? Pay attention and try to invest a little effort into your thinking.
Dan:
You have your facts wrong. Abed had lodged his complaint with the Iraqis. This complaint was not initiated with the SEAL leader. He was required to report this complaint forwarded by the Iraqis up the chain of command.
On the COP issue, I added a paragraph. I had words like that in an earlier version, but somehow they got deleted in revision.
This is not a rag. It is an opinion journal, and my articles carry opinion guided by fact. What is the use otherwise?
Hey Drew - I sure am sorry you aren't smart enough to get fair and unbalanced news instead of relying on Katie or blue eyes Brian or maybe that suave Anderson. Better wake up and look around Drew. The LAME stream media won't report on anything that may reflect this Socialist administration in a bad light. Making our military operate with kid gloves when they are face to face with our enemy is immoral. What say you, Drew? Oh. Never mind. It's time for NBC news! Sorry to bother you.
My active duty sources first suggested the possibility, and then it was discussed today on Limbaugh by a serviceman with an intelligence background calling in to the program, that the prosecution of the Navy Seals is likely a baldface White House payback for their having taken out the Somali pirates in apparent contravention of the orders issued by the President. Truth is fragile (where it can be found) in Washington or the media these days. Howver it wouldn't surprise this 30-year veteran if the current prosecution of our Seals really is cynical payback. So much for supporting the troops. So much for the integrity of the Armed Forces command structure, right up to and including DoD Secretary Gates and most all officers of Flag rank. Brothers? What brothers? Not applicable anymore in the Armed Force's senior command structure. I wonder how long it will take before our operators figure out they are viewed as expendable?
an outrage...
words can't describe the anger I feel against this administration. They are completely determined to turn the USA into the USSA. such socialism is unexceptable, unconstitutional, immoral, and against everything that hard working American should believe.
The SEALS, like the rest of the Armed Forces, are even more than warriors. They are like the greatest Spartans. They defend their lives, beliefs, moral values, country, and above all, their Faith for a country that seems to care less and less every day.
So to all you coward terrorists out there; Taliban, IRA, or otherwise; for those who hide behind innocents. Pray to the Christian God that you'll live. I'd be worried if I were you.
Ahaha... this is great. I love you.
