The ridiculous contoversy of Psycho Donuts

Psycho Donuts on the corner of Winchester and Campbell Ave.

If you live in the Silicon Valley and never been to Psycho Donuts in Downtown Campbell, then there is something obviously wrong with your sense of exploration.

Other then tasty donuts, the establishment has been known for the controversy caused among mental health advocates for what they describe as its "offensive theme".

Advocate groups like C.A.U.S.E. claim that Psycho Donuts causes a negative stereotype of people with mental illness. Critics of Psycho Donuts have held protests in Campbell and disrupted school fundraisers sponsored by the shop.

I'm an advocate of equal rights and a more tolerant world toward all people of different races, religion, gender, and sexual orientation; but that is it. Any thing else is just moronic.

Not every damn group in this country is entitled to their own NAACP like club with a Martin Luther King Jr. or Harvey Milk icon. In fact some groups could be seen as fair game when it comes to being part of a pop culture phenomena regardless of its portrayal.

So just ignore the disruption and enjoy a tasty donut.

Family member name affected by mental illness: Travis. When did mental illness become part of pop culture? When the civil rights act was first implemented, there were idiots who thought it was moronic too. It your concern is the taste of a donut, then why does the name of facility matter. I guess you do not believe in equal rights for fat people too. I see that you are chubby and clearly like donuts, so what would happen if we created a donut shop called Chubby Fatso, which would include your segment of the population? Would your feelings not be hurt? It may seem like not a big deal to you, but those of us who battle the stigma each day, dont want society making a joke of those we love fatso.

"When did mental illness become part of pop culture?"

... for as long as there has BEEN a pop culture. Dickens. Poe. Fritz Lang. Alfred Hitchcock. The Joker. Twilight Zone.

    It's just donuts, people.

Pop Culture: There are lots of things in our culture that we should not be proud of--just because its "pop culture." How about "black face" is that just donuts to you? These ideas, images, situations, may seem harmless at the time, but as they are repeated, they damage. One could not image walking around with black face and an African American would not rightfully be offended. Its not the donuts stupid, it is the refrence they make. References that stay with our minds...

well guess what slut, they do have such eating places that have the word fat in its name and fat people don't have a problem with it.

also if you people are afraid of social stigma's of mental illness, then what is so positive about a psycho chasing you with a knife?
