Rand Paul: Potential candidate for 2012?

Rand Paul's US Senate site

It is still a bit early to be thinking about 2012 elections as 2010 is still a year away. But let's face it, we've already seen the posturing by Romney and Huckabee, and the idea of having a repeat of 2008 Republican candidates with no Ron Paul in the mix is not a fun thought. The next best thing to Ron Paul? His son, Rand, is the obvious answer.

Rand Paul is currently campaigning for the United States Senate. He is an eye doctor from Bowling Green, Kentucky. He is also the founder of the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic, an organization that performs eye exams and surgery for less fortunate patients.

According to Paul's 2010 senate site, Dr. Paul founded the Kentucky Taxpayers United (KTU) in 1994. KTU rates the state legislature’s tax honesty and helps promote the Americans for Tax Reform taxpayer pledge, to oppose any and all marginal income tax increases and any reduction in tax deductions.

While he has never served in state or national politics, that should hardly be viewed as a shortcoming. As Peter Schiff put it when criticized for his inexperience in politics, "I think that's my greatest attribute-- the fact that I haven't had experience ruining the country, that I haven't brought the banking system to its knees, I haven't helped destroy our health care system. The problem with this country is we have all these experienced politicians running the show, and it's been a disaster." And, of course, President Obama only had two years senate experience before his run for the presidency began.

Obviously, Paul must win the senate seat first. Today there is a fundraising effort underway--or a "money bomb"--put together by Rand Paul supporters to help make his win possible. Paul's opponent in the senate race, Trey Grayson, is also having a fundraiser today--a $500 a plate ordeal held by twenty-three Republican senators. The money bomb organizers are calling it the "Kentucky Fight: We the people vs. The DC Insiders."

Here's a website (www.retakecongress.com/) that's full of Constitutional candidates, Jenn. Great article, however, I hope Ron Paul runs; Rand though, is by some descriptions, "Ron Paul on steroids!" How about "Ron & Rand in 2012"?!? Now that would be a ticket!

It seems that Rand may have a better chance. From the limited video I've seen of him, he's better at public speaking. I love RP but he just isn't the best orator.

17 of the 23 senators at the fundraiser for Trey voted FOR the bailout. Corruption at its finest. Rand Paul 2010!

Jake Towne of Pennsylvania (very knowledgeable in his own right on the background of the current economic crisis),
    Gary Clift of California,
John Dennis of San Francisco opposing Speaker Pelosi (can you imagine Pelosi being gone in 2011?)

I, too, fear we will have a repeat of 2008 candidates--without a constitutionalist voice. Whether it is Rand Paul or another true constitutionalist that comes out of the woodwork and can garner enough mass support to win--many of us are out here watching and waiting to see what will happen. Keep us posted on any info that comes up!

If Rand Paul can win the Kentucky Senate Seat, he's the dark horse candidate for the GOP presidential nomination.

Rand Paul has my support, a man of the people, he reminds me of a "more gentle" Andrew Jackson
