Upon researching Arizona’s new immigration law, no violations of civil rights or U.S. immigration laws could be found. In fact, according to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website, President Obama, Senator Harry Reid (D-NV), and all others who want to allow illegal aliens to stay in our country and obtain citizenship are the ones who are acting unlawfully. Section 212 [8 U.S.C. 1182] (5)(A)(i) clearly states, “In general-Any alien who seeks to enter the United States for the purpose of performing skilled or unskilled labor is inadmissible, unless the Secretary of Labor has determined and certified to the Secretary of State and the Attorney General that-(I) there are not sufficient workers who are able, willing, qualified (or equally qualified in the case of an alien described in clause (ii)) and available at the time of application for a visa and admission to the United States and at the place where the alien is to perform such skilled or unskilled labor, and (II) the employment of such alien will not adversely affect the wages and working conditions of workers in the United States similarly employed.”
Arizona’s new immigration law (Arizona Senate Bill 1070) clearly states, throughout the document, that their law is in compliance with all current federal immigration laws. As stated in Section 11. Severability, implementation and construction-“C. This act shall be implemented in a manner consistent with federal laws regulating immigration, protecting the civil rights of all and respecting the privileges and immunities of United States citizens.” Nothing could be found requiring law enforcement to seek out individuals who are suspected of being in the United States illegally until there has been a law broken or a report filed.
On United States Senator Harry Reid’s website he states his position on immigration as, “I am strongly opposed to illegal immigration and believe that our immigration laws should be strictly enforced. At the same time, there is near-universal agreement that our system is broken and in need of reform.” Later Reid states “I believe reform should include strong and effective enforcement of our borders, tough sanctions against employers who hire undocumented immigrants, and expand channels for legal immigration where necessary. Immigrants who are in this country illegally, but want to stay, should get right with the law by registering with the government, learning English, paying their taxes, passing criminal background checks, and paying fines and penalties for being here unlawfully.” Many people, from Reno, Nevada to people in other countries, are trying to say that Arizona’s new law is an issue of race, but it is actually an issue of law and protecting American citizens. Apparently, Canada and Mexico can have very stringent immigration laws that they enforce without being accused of racism, but the United States is expected to give the proverbial store away.
