Well the first week of college is football is over (except for Monday's game, but we will get to that in a little) and it was one that had so many good games on that I barely left the couch. Thursday started the football weekend with four ranked teams playing. Ohio State started its season against Marshall in a game that I didn't even bother to watch since I knew what the result would be (granted if they lost I would have missed one hell of a game), for me the game of the day was Pittsburgh against Utah. I was hoping that Pitt would win this and help the Big East gain some respect but Utah wanted some respect of its own. In one of the best games of the weekend Utah was able to win in overtime with a field goal. The last four minutes of that game was possibly the best of all the games this weekend.
The late game on Thursday was USC against Hawaii. I figured USC would win but I always like to watch Hawaii play with their offense being one of the best to watch. The game was actually much better than the score would show and I might just get tickets to the Hawaii-Army game to see it in person (also glad Army won this weekend). I am glad that Rutgers won, but I wasn't able to see it since it was not televised, hopefully that won't happen again.
Then came Saturday, with more games on then I knew what to do. Texas took care of Rice and Alabama and Florida took care of their opponents too. Notre Dame and Purdue turned out to be a good game but I was disappointed with UConn against Michigan (Wasn't the best game for a Big East team).
Now after all those games I still had the night to look forward to and it was a tough decision to chose which game to watch, Oregon St. and TCU or LSU at North Carolina. I finally decided on the TCU game (partly due to the fact that NC was missing a whole bunch of starters) but my finger was on the remote to jump to the other game during a commercial. I am glad I picked the TCU game which had a great first half, compared to LSU's 20 point lead. The TCU game did not disappoint and a late game safety (one of my favorite ways to score for some odd reason) secured victory and gave me enough time to change the channel and catch the end of the LSU game which became a lot more exciting in the 4th quarter than most people would have thought. When it appeared that North Carolina's comeback was all but done they were able to recover a fumble with less than 2 minutes left. NC was able to move the ball down but with 2 seconds left on the clock the pass to the end zone was not completed and NC fell against LSU (in a game that should be a wake up call to LSU, basically don't fall asleep in the 4th quarter).
Before going to bed I put on the Cincinnati-Fresno State game and saw it tied at half time and figured why not, one more game isn't going to kill me and it is a Big East team. What I did see was Fresno State take control of the game and end up winning, It wasn't like watching the Cincinnati that I know, the 2 time Big East Champs who have beaten my Rutgers more times than I would like to admit. They need to learn the lesson that LSU had, that a game has 4 quarters and you need to play hard in each one.
Now since it is Labor Day Weekend I have to wait to Monday to see a game that may be the best of this week, Boise State and Virginia Tech. Having a game between to top ten teams this early in the season is a treat and one that should be repeated. Boise State needs to win and win big to get respect since they are in a weak conference. I am going to go with Boise State by 10, and that will keep them in the conversation about the National Championship. It should be a great way to end the holiday weekend, and one of my ten preseason picks is on the line in the game.

Week 2 should be just as good.
