The leaked e-mails at the center of the "climategate" scandal should be the focus of a criminal probe, according to Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-CA.
The e-mails, allegedly obtained by a hacker who broke into the server used by the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit, reveal that CRU scientists manipulated data in order to show a dramatic rise in temperatures and attempted to suppress evidence that contradicted their results.
Sen. Boxer, Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, says that the recently released e-mails should be treated as a crime.
"You call it 'Climategate'; I call it 'E-mail-theft-gate,'" she said during a committee meeting.
Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., has asked for a Senate investigation into the "climategate" scandal. Boxer said her committee may hold hearings into the matter, but that a criminal probe would be part of any such hearings.
"We may well have a hearing on this, we may not. We may have a briefing for senators, we may not," Boxer said. "Part of our looking at this will be looking at a criminal activity which could have well been coordinated. This is a crime."

Boxer is ever the lefty-liberal sycophant and party line follower. Hard to believe she represents the relatively enlightened state of California.
According to Lord Christopher Monckton, there are only 4 temperature data sets used in most climate models: 2 earth based and 2 satellite based.
The two earth based sets are controlled by CRU and NASA - both key participants in the Climategate scandal.
The satellite data sets are callibrated against the earth data sets.
Suddenly, all of that Climate Science is coming down to a very small "controllable" sample of data.
In regards to the article, I would call it E-mail Whistlebower-gate.
If Barbara Boxer was Woodward or Berstein, Richard Nixon would have retired in office.

You said it, Barbara, but the criminal activity was not accessing public email funded by taxpayers. The criminal activity was the complacency of your administration and your party. You should be tarred and feathered for such apologetic behavior.
Boxer sounds weirdly uninformed and desperate. She must know that the real issue is not the means by which the emails were made public. When a key climate researcher (Kevin E. Trenberth) says that he and his colleagues cannot account for the lack of warming over the last decade, then the need for urgent action in Copenhagen within the next 20 days evaporates. Her lame response shows that the cap and trade crowd simply does not know what to say at this point.
I gotta hand it too the hackers.... how exactly did they manage to compile all these emails and data that have proven so damaging without spending days, or even months trawling through the cru servers? If it was hackers it would suggest what has been released is just the tip o the ice berg! I think it more likly a whistle blower is at play here.

The reason these emails and data were leaked is because they were such a massive fraud and these "scientists" were rejecting FOIA requests on their data and computer models. Boxer is living in her own world -- they were not hacked -- were released by an insider -- a true hero. Boxer is a joke.
I'm of the opinion that the emails were released by an inside whistleblower myself. That's why I say "alleged hacker". It is almost assuredly someone on the inside, and Boxer probably knows it. She would rather out the whistleblower than expose the scientist who engaged in one the biggest scientific frauds ever.
The CRU "scientists" are the equivalent of the ones who hoaxed the public with piltdown man. Only worse they sell their souls to globalist bankers who want to make us all pay them carbon taxes for the CO2 we exhale. Stop trying to spin Climategate on the crimes by the hackers, and put attention where it belongs: the world’s leading climate scientists working in tandem to block freedom of information requests, blackball dissenting scientists, manipulate the peer-review process, and obscure, destroy or massage inconvenient temperature data—facts for their own banker bailouts.

Consider - The emails were not a result of a hacker's activity. They were also not going to be produced under a FOIA request.
Rather, they are the residual emails comprising those which had already been previously *sanitized* from the CRU systems to illegally prepare an incomplete reponse for a future (likely successful) FOIA request.
Note that there is a very small percentage of personal chatter that typically make up close colleague's communication. Therefore, it points to a previous culling.
Theory: These are deleted emails from a sanitized batch which were foolishly or purposely archived and/or discovered by an insider (perhaps the sanitizer himself). The insider then had pangs of conscience or an axe to grind and released them surreptitiously.
Ms. Barbara is right. How dare Toto (that's what I'm renaming the alleged hacker/thief/whistleblower/patriot/whatever) pull that curtain back from the men behind it?
How DARE they steal all that (information-all-subject-to-FOIA and-belonging-to-the-public-anyway) private and sensitive material!
HOW DARE people try to make this about morally and ethically bankrupt scientists, and a corrupt and thoroughly hijacked scientific process! How dare people demand transparency! Not when the SCIENCE IS SO SETTLED! Not when scientists are calling for criminal tribunals for any scientist who DARES question their conclusions and beliefs!
I think the public jury should be instructed to disregard whatever they hear concerning this. It should all be thrown out along with all the raw data that can no longer be checked.

related on the Canada.com news network. It will not be posted. If it does - because you at least talk within the context of the article, it may pass
the mod but it will eventually get deleted. In fact, I have seen articles disappearing. This includes CTV and other major media that gets government funding & funding from special interest groups.

The Senator should worry about what the emails are saying. The US has no jurisdiction to investigate a crime (if any actually occurred) committed in another country.
Is it not a bigger crime, Ms. Boxer, that the United States has been defrauded out of millions of dollars in the name of global warming? Is our government going to go after this gutsy person like they went after the ACORN whistle-blowers? What we need is more "hackers" like this to root out and reveal the fraud in Congress.
