The term "Climategate" was first used by James Delingpole, journalist, broadcaster, and author of the book "Welcome To Obamaland: I've Seen Your Future And It Doesn't Work". A Google search of that term now returns 12 million results.
In spite of the fact that the mainstream media refuses to report on what is arguably the biggest scientific scadal ever, word is obviously spreading. Thanks to the internet the truth is getting out. The effort to suppress the mounting evidence that Anthropogenic Global Warming is a myth is failing miserably.
The emails at the center of the "climategate" scandal were released onto the internet nearly two weeks ago by an alleged hacker who broke into the server used by University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit. While the hacker theory seems to be the most popular, many seem to believe that the emails were posted by a whistleblower, not a hacker.
In any event, the word is out, and the Genie can't be put back in the bottle. People are beginning to understand the lengths that many of the scientists responsible for pushing the AGW theory went to in order to prevent the public from seeing any evidence that would contradict their findings.
They are also aware that much of the science that the AGW theory is based upon is flawed. In their own words the scientists most responsible for promoting the idea of global warming have unwittingly let us all in on their secret. The data was manipulated. Past temperatures were scaled down, and temperatures over the last 10 years or so were artificially increased in the formula. Why? To obtain the desired result. There is little actual science involved. It is a scam of unprecedented proportions.
Once the deed was done, it had to be covered up. Hidden in such a way that the CRU results could never be challenged or verified. We must all be convinced that the "science is settled", and never be allowed to compare the CRU data with any contradicting studies.
How could that be accomplished? Easy. Lose the data. That's what we were originally told. The data was somehow lost. Then came the recent admission, or excuse, that the data was thrown away. Tossed in the trash to make room when the CRU moved into a new building.
How convenient. Especially since a request was made under the Freedom of Information Act to provide the data. Here's the kicker, if it turns out that the data was hidden or destroyed after that request was made, then we're talking about a criminal offense.
It just so happens that there was series of emails among those that were released which included discussions on how the CRU scientists could avoid releasing the data if a FOIA request was ever made.
A Congressional investigation will be looking into the CRU emails. We can only hope that it will be a serious and in-dept effort to obtain the truth, and not just a show for the cameras. It is well past time for the myth of AGW to be exposed for what it is. A lie. It is all about the money.

...and the beat goes on...
It wasn't Delingpole it was a just a commenter on Anthony Watts blog. Always comment on breaking stories yuo never know when you will be the one who gets to create the name.
Delingpole has been given credit by many different sources for creating the term. It is entirely possible that someone else used it before Delingpole, but his is the first known published account.
yeah it was on Watts Up With That blog that it was coined, Delingpole only quoted from WUWT. That said, he's done a good job helping to break the MSM reality distortion field to get the story out of the blogosphere.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, once the emails are scrutinized the source code will be next. Keep on blogging this scandal.
Origins of 'Climategate' for the record...
Watts Up With That post of 19/11/09
'Breaking News Story: CRU has apparently been hacked hundreds of files released'
'Bulldust' commented:
'Hmmm how long before this is dubbed ClimateGate?'
@BernieL: After looking into the origin of the term "climategate", I have found the reference you mention several times, although I hadn't heard that before writing this article. Delingpole was been widely credited with coining the term, and apparently was the first journalist to use it, however it appears that Bulldust may very well be the first person to refer to the scandal as "Climategate". Thanks for the info. In any event, what is most important here is to continue getting the word out to as many people as possible. The truth must be told. I will be focusing on this story and publishing new information as often as possible.
So ManBearPig was wrong? I wonder if I can sell my carbon credits on Craig's List.....
Delingpole that young man has done a excelent job.. He deserves AL Gores Nobel prise..
Lies, damned lies, and statistics.
The falsification of data and the conspiracy to commit same etc, constitutes serious criminal activity. Further, the granting of public funds for research warrants a federal investigation. Im hoping the perpetrators, including possibly Professor Michael Mann, director of Pennsylvania State Universitys Earth System Science Centre and a regular contributor to the popular climate science blog Real Climate, and their facilitators will be tracked down and prosecuted to the fullest extent the law allows. -- Michael Santomauro
If FOIA laws have been violated heads should roll. A real criminal investigation is called for.
