BBC climategate debate grows heated

During a live television debate hosted by the BBC, Marc Morano, former Communications Director of the U.S. Senate Environment Committee and now an editor with the Web site Climate Depot, squared off against Professor Andrew Watson of the University of East Anglia in eastern England.

Morano is an outspoken skeptic of Anthropogenic Global Warming, while Watson is one of the CRU researchers promoting the idea that the Earth is warming at an alarming rate, and that it is being caused by man.

The debate grew heated quickly and Watson was visibly annoyed by Morano's interruptions. By the end of the debate when the anchor thanked the participants, Watson chose a somewhat colorful description of Morano.

"What an asshole," Watson said.

With the UN climate conference set to begin in Copenhagen on Monday, the debate over global warming has reached a boiling point. While skeptics are demanding answers to questions raised by the CRU e-mails at the center of climategate, the mainstream media in the US seems to be ignoring the scandal.

President Obama is still set to attend the UN conference, and word has it that he will promise a huge reduction in US emissions. Many people are questioning his refusal to even comment ofn the CRU e-mails and also why he won't at least consider the possibility that further research is needed before the US makes any long-term commitments based on the CRU research.

Below are two youtube clips of the debate between Morano and Watson. I believe you will find them interesting.

I have worked to better the environment through education and research at SF State University’s Sierra Nevada Field Campus. I think we can do our most important work by fixing wetlands. However I have become increasingly skeptical of CO2 induced warming. I tried to engage Mann’s RealClimate website in debate but often had posts deleted, or have a post attacked and then denied posting any replies. So I know first hand some of these scientists are willing to manipulate the appearance of science.

As a skeptic I see a slight warming which CO2 probably has some small impact. But I do not think natural variability has been well modeled. What AGW proponents push is a perception of the hockey stick where climate was stable and slightly cooling and only recently shoots up.It creates an illusion that the Mideival Warm period and Little Ice Age never happened. However their proxies used to create the hockey stick have not withstood the test of time. Their proxies have shown a decline these pa

Their proxies have shown a decline these past 50 years when observation said it has increased. This called into question the hockey stick and is why they felt they “must hide the decline”. The clearest article showing how Jones and Mann tried to misrepresent the past climate and mislead the public by "hiding the decline" has been written by Marc Sheppard, called Understanding Climategate’s Hidden Decline. A must read that is well documented!

The mainstream media who have been siding with the pro-anthropogenic climate change lobby will be seen for the gullible fools they are for not having undertaken serious collection and assessment of the claims. That's why they hope the revelations by the hackers will go away. Politicians were hoping to use this to gather hefty taxes. The critical thing is that the `scientists' concerned know and c;ear;y act as though they have been caught out. In the past anyone falsifying results was essentially shamed and kicked out of the scientific community, and that should happen in this case. Falsifying one's scientific results is not science, it is fraud.

The mainstream media is not mainstream anymore. Haven't been for 15 years. With all the great sources of news on the internet, ABC, CBS, and NBC seem irrelavent. So I could really care less whether they carry the story or not. Too bad, though. 30 years ago I watched them religiously every night. But they have become so aligned with political agendas that I lost faith long ago. But it really doesn't matter, does it? They are minor league players.

I grew up watching ABC News. I was never aware of the mainstream media bias until the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal. It was appaling to see how they took a criminal act by the POTUS and transformed it into "a personal matter". Since that time it has grown much worse. In many cases they don't even try to hide it anymore. Case in point, the Katie Couric health care poem last week. What a joke. I have no faith in the MSM anymore and anyone who does is completely naive.
