Our immigration system and our country is under duress
Most of us on the right and left side of this debate will acknowledge there is a desperate need for “immigration reform” but what does that mean? Well for some it means open borders and amnesty while for others it is quite the opposite. The differences are complicated and the sides are diametrically opposed to each other on many of the points. One wants the system fixed and demands that anyone who came here illegally be dealt with through the legal system. The other side wants the system fixed and demands that everyone who came here illegally get a “gimme” on the crime or crimes they have committed and get a path to citizenship. They want an immigration system that is liberal and one that provides anyone with the ability or desire to come here, the “right” to do it. We are not likely to find common ground on this. Amnesty is unacceptable for the right and a core principal for the left.
Illegal immigration aside, what about the system everyone agrees should be fixed? Certainly it is broken. How could it not be? Since the 1960’s Ted Kennedy and his ilk (please forgive me for not shedding tears on his passing) have turned replacement level immigration into a free-for-all. We have allowed more people to immigrate to the United States/America in the last forty years than in the last four hundred years combined. It has transformed our culture, the environment, our education system, our economy…virtually no aspect of American life has not been impacted by those on the express train to America.
You’ve heard it said time and time again. We are a nation of immigrants, blah, blah, blah. Yes we are and I wouldn’t be here were it not for a couple of German and Irish immigrants with a desire to come to America. They emigrated here about 100 years ago, legally through Ellis Island and staked their claim to the American Dream. They went through incredible hardships to get here and continued to work hard to become Americans. Amongst each other they spoke their native tongue but refused to let the kids speak anything but English; probably so they could keep a few secrets. They had customs that they passed down and new ones they made up. It is the same story told millions of times across this country.
Immigration can be a good thing but only as long as it is controlled, the immigrants can make a contribution to their new country and they do it legally. My grandfather was a printer. A skilled tradesman. At a time when we needed both. The reason for controls is key to the whole reason for immigration in the first place. We as a society must know who are here, if they have received proper health screenings and are they going to make a “needed contribution” to our society. This part of the equation is often overlooked. We must have a NEED. People do not have a RIGHT to come to America no more than I have a RIGHT to emigrate to Mexico or the Sudan. Historically it is a PRIVELEGE granted by those who are citizens and/or already legally here and it should be based on what skills are needed in the US at the time and what level of contribution will be made by those brought in to fill those needs. What is so hard to understand about that? Ah, maybe it is that whole logic and reason thing again. I always get caught up in that line of thinking.
Illegal Immigrants come here because they simply want to and they cannot or will not do it the LEGAL way. It really is very simple. Millions get in line to do it properly every year. Illegal immigrants have NO RIGHT to be here. Granted, the system is messed up (thanks again Teddy) but violating it is really no different than saying you don’t like the price of the food in the grocery store so you’re just going to walk out the door with the product without paying for it.
Now we can fix the system and we should, but the illegal immigrants should not have say in it nor should they be allowed a “Get Out Of Guatemala Free” card. Immigration should be tied to the needs of the country and NOT the immigrants. This is where we part ways with the left. Right now our country does not NEED immigrants. We need jobs for those already here. When that changes, then let those in that can make a contribution to our economy and our society, not be a drain on it.
I think we need to put a 2-5 year hold on ALL immigration. (Oh my. Did he really say that?) While we are at it, fix the system, deport those that are criminals and give everyone else that are not supposed to be here a choice, leave or prove WHY you should stay? What are you contributing to our society? Did you commit any other crimes in America, other than crossing the border illegally? If not, let’s take a closer look but no guarantees. We’ll have plenty of bureaucrats to handle the interviews. They won’t be processing new immigration applications for a while anyway. Come up with a set of rules based on need and rigidly follow them. Allow for an appeals process. If you don’t fit… adios, see ya, au revoir, auf wiedersehen, have a nice life…in your country.
Yes, our government was complicit in allowing illegal immigration to occur for decades. We permitted our government to get away with it and for that WE bear some of the responsibility. No, it is not possible in my opinion to deport all twenty million plus illegal aliens nor should we. Many have been here for decades, made a solid contribution to our country and are otherwise law-abiding residents. If the tables were turned and Mexico gave Americans a green light to come aboard for all the benefits and opportunity you can bet your bottom dollar some Americans would have done it even though it may have been illegal. Doesn’t make it right but it would have happened nonetheless. We should however deport every criminal we get our hands on and properly secure the border so they cannot get back in. This is critical.
Let’s fix the system once and for all and give everyone who wants to be a citizen the same amount of respect they showed the citizens of this country, not the other way around. Lets be sure we have enough work for Americans before we let another 1.5 million in next year. That’s my immigration reform. If you have a “common sense” reason for allowing anyone in that wants to come, I’d like too hear it. If not, get on the immigration reform train, shed that amnesty baggage and lets fix our country, and it’s immigration system, together.

To solve this problem equitably, these communities ought to receive the surplus taxes that federal government collects from immigrants. But the real reason border communities are strained is the lack of a guest worker program.
Such a program would match willing workers with willing employers in advance so that they wouldn’t be stuck for long periods where they disembark while searching for jobs. The cost of undocumented aliens is an issue that immigrant bashers have created to whip up indignation against people they don’t want here in the first place.

The only services that illegals can still get are emergency medical care and K-12 education. Nevertheless, Tancredo and his ilk pushed a bill through the House criminalizing all aid to illegal aliens — even private acts of charity by priests, nurses and social workers.
Potentially, any soup kitchen that offers so much as a free lunch to an illegal could face up to five years in prison and seizure of assets. The Senate bill that recently collapsed would have tempered these draconian measures against private aid.
But no one — Democrat or Republican — seems to oppose the idea of withholding public services. Earlier this year, Congress passed a law that requires everyone who gets Medicaid — the government-funded health care program for the poor — to offer proof of U.S. citizenship so we can avoid “theft of these benefits by illegal aliens,” as Rep. In this modern world we have laws and irrespective of personal opinion it is currently illegal to cross our border without being vetted by the US. I don't know if you have actually looked around, but most of the people who are illegal are working all day with no benefits, low cash pay and no questions asked. To Illegal: Illegal aliens ARE partying on us in America. They are STEALING from hard working legal residents - jobs, healthcare, standard of living, creating pollution. There are too many unemployed legal residents to have 1 illegal alien left inside our borders. We need another "Operation Wetback" as was done in 1954.
Prices on food are NOT higher in restaurants in places like Rapid City, South Dakota which have very few illegal aliens. Go around a look into a city like that and make your false argument. As for Europe, not a good example, since they've got their own illegal alien and immigration problems.
Anyone who employs an illegal alien should be prosecuted. Everyone should be required to use E-Verify for ANY employment including day workers. That would solve many of our problmes. Thankfully a federal judge saw it that way last week and Federal Gov. contractors in just over a week must adhere to it.

I disagree with your statement that we can not deport all 20 million illegal aliens. We certainly can...it will just take a good plan and the time carry it out. Foreign Nationals here illegally should not be granted any quarter by the fact they are already here, have been here for a while and have been birthing anchor babies every year. That would analogous to granting ownership of the stolen goods from the store example, once they got into the parking lot, since they had planned to eat those goods for lunch (Inhumane to arrest thieves?)
Now, if you are referring to a political issue, then yes, it could be tough, since those 20 million illegals are now politically represented by 60 million anchor babies and 30 million anchor grand-babies. It will take an monumental political effort to make that happen. There is no need for CIR. Enforce the laws on the books and be done with it. Those laws include a double layer fence and additional BP to gaurd it. Deport every illegal alien along with their anchors and their anchors since they were the product produced for unlawful means. Do this the same as when a drug dealer is busted, they take everything he owns even if not purchased or gained by the sales.

Many illegal aliens pay taxes. However, many claim enough dependants that they pay only Social Security and Medicare and they get tax credits for their children. There are those who do contract work, get 1099's and never file them, and those who work for cash only and pay nothing. Many of them do however, use fraudulent papers to obtain jobs, welfare benefits, section 8 housing, etc.
There are an estimated 12 to 20 million illegal aliens here of that number, only 7.2 million of them hold jobs and that count does not include children or the elderly.
What are the rest doing for a living? Growing pot in our National Forests? Smuggling drugs, selling drugs and stolen Id's, prostitution, running meth houses? How many of them are we supporting in our prison system? How many are violent criminals like the one who smashed an axe into a childs head for telling him he had a wobbling tire on his car? We have enough homegrown criminals without importing more or keeping those here illegally.
Truth, you're full of baloney. Even if illegal aliens file an income tax return, it does not mean they end up paying any tax. In fact, based on income, they probably get a lot of money back if they have kids. In fact, they have a huge incentive to file income tax returns so they can collect!
If illegal aliens are paying social security, it is under someone else's stolen SS number! This means that if there was an amnesty and the social security totalization agreement with Mexico is finalized (it is pending), they could screw up the ability of the true owner of that SS number to collect SS when it comes time.
Your assertion that illegal aliens pay their share of property tax is also bogus. The illegal aliens I know of live 25 to a house rather than living in a single family home....yeah, that's paying their 'fair' share of local and county taxes, the lion's share of which go to schools.

Amnesty also means amnesty for illegal employers -- this is what I'm against.
An adjustment of status (amnesty) for illegal aliens should require a 50% reduction in legal immigration for the next 10 years. Many of the illegal aliens have homes and jobs -- the housing inflation and wage depression from new immigrants is economically more harmful than legalizing those who are already here.
An otherwise clean criminal record and (eyewitness) help with the prosecution of illegal-employers should be required in the terms of amnesty.
Hey everyone, i know an immigrant here that came here legally, got his application in in 2001 for a green card. His sister is a Citizen, his parents too and he is still waiting on his application. Is that fair? Is that a good system people? He is 29 years old. Plays great b-ball had offers from schools to get an education but couldnt use tham. Always pays taxes and never had any criminal problems. Cant get a drivers licence, no ss, no anything. His whole familly here got everything and he as the youngest has the most p[otential and the system is waisting his life. What about that people?

Immagration can save our country. Amnesty saved the country under Pres. Reagan. He was a great President and leader. The country flurished under his leadership.(1980's) Many of those given amnesty under Pres. Reagan are now paying in to our social security department. This is what my retired parents are now getting out of the social security fund.

We would accomplish the same thing by letting in more legal immigrants and/or starting a guest worker program in which foreigners would sign up from within their home countries. Then these additional legal immigrants and/or guest workers would buy cars (car crises solved) and homes (poor housing market solved). We don't need illegal alien lawbreakers in the United States for any reason.

Should we send them to prison camps and deny them from any type medical atention?. Im ashamed of my country being such a hipocrats. My parents came to this country 13 years ago whit a dream, they worked hard to accomplised that dream, earning 5$ a day it was imposible for them to get a visa or any other way to get in this country legaly. I was born here and i know how things are and I will try what ever i can to legalise them, maybe not now nor tomorow but years from now when the latino comunity starts to get in to politics (including me)

Laws are made for the protection of the "HUMAN RACE". No one from any country should be immune from them! If we are to reward criminals, why not empty our prisons and reunite all those folks with their families that they have been "Seperated" from. Incidently Ivan, I'm not an angry "white male", I'm beige and female and I started researching the problems with illegal immigration over 6 years ago when a male co-worker was arrested for molesting a 9 year old boy. Had that particular illegal alien not been in this country, that child might have lived to adulthood without that trauma in his life.
Racism has nothing to do with my expectations that our laws should not only be respected but enforced!

The Failure has no definite purpose in life, believes that all success is a result of "luck" and moves on her own initiative only when forced to do so.
The Success is a master salesperson who has learnt the art of influencing others to corporate in a friendly spirit to carry out her plans and purpose.
The Failure finds fault with people, She goes out of her way to let them know about her critical attitude.
The Successful Person takes a keen interest in people especially those whom she has something in common and cultivates a bond of friendship.
The Failure cultivates only those from whom she wants something.
The Successful Person keeps abreast of the times and makes it an important responsibility to know what is going on, not only in her own business, profession or community but throughout the entire world.
The Failure concerns herself only with her immediate needs, acquiring them by what ever means are available-fair or foul.
The Successful Person keeps her Mind and OUTLOOK on life positive at all times. She recognizes that the space she occupies in the world and the success she enjoys depend upon the quality & quantity of the service she renders. She makes it a habit to render more service than she promises.
