Schwarzenegger signs bill limiting ammunition sales.

Bowing to pressure from Mexico and the anti-gun lobby, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger last night signed Assembly Bill 962 restricting ammunition sales. Beginning February 1, 2011 retailers will be required to place all ammo behind counters and create a registry of handgun ammunition buyers by obtaining their fingerprint and recording their drivers license numbers.

In a letter to the State Assembly the Governor stated: "Utilized properly, this type of information is invaluable for keeping communities safe and preventing dangerous felons from committing crimes with firearms. Assembly Bill 962 reasonably regulates access to ammunition and improves public safety without placing undue burdens on consumers. For these reasons, I am pleased to sign this bill."
The legislation also requires face to face  transfers of ammunition which will eliminate any mail order or Internet purchases of ammunition by State residents. Retailers like Cabella's reportedly aren't waiting for the bill to take effect and will stop shipping to CA soon.

This bill will exacerbate an already tight market in CA for ammunition and unfairly burden law abiding citizens with more hurdles to jump over to exercise their Second Amendment Rights. Schwarzenegger has been no friend to gun owners in the Golden State. Though he did veto legislation banning gun shows from public property he has in the past signed bills restricting the purchase of certain types of guns and requiring microstamping for handguns.

"As Governor, I have sought the appropriate balance between public safety and the right to keep and bear arms.  I have also vetoed many pieces of legislation that sought to place unreasonable restrictions and burdens on firearms dealers and ammunition vendors." he said.

The Governor has been under much pressure from Mexico and from the Department of Homeland Security to halt the flow of ammunition south of the border. As usual, this anti-gun legislation will only serve to restrict law abiding citizens and do little to halt the sale of ammunition to gang bangers and criminals who will get their supplies illegally or from bordering states.

Restrictive gun laws have only proven to increase crime in areas where they have been implemented according to a Brady Campaign 2008 Scorecard. While  the Governor seeks to be seen as tough on crime the bill is only tough on CA gun owners.

Why isn't anyone challenging this "law" based on "The Prohibition on Discriminating Against Interstate Commerce"

We we still be able to buy primers or reloading supplies on-line?

United States Supreme Court has long held that a negative implication of this grant of power is that states may not adopt regulations or taxes that place an “undue burden” on interstate commerce, even if Congress has taken no action. This is referred to as the “dormant” or “negative” Commerce Clause doctrine. The Commerce Clause is a principal reason for the federal constitution: that is, to join the states in a national economy and to prevent the fragmentation that resulted from individual states imposing tariffs and laws favoring local merchants.

He might as well join the liberal side of this state, he cant stand up to them at all. Time to replace him, how about next election...As if he expects the bad guys to walk in and give up a fingerprint and ID, give me a break. All this does is hamper the legal citizens and cost them money. Go Arnold, back to the country you came from, you did not earn your citizenship.

Actually they had gone to far when they refused to uphold their oaths of office in regards to upholding The United States Constitution and the rule of law in regards to illegal immigration, but who's keeping track.

"The Constitution of the United States of America

    Article IV

Section 4. The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence."

We knew when we passed Proposition 187 and it was deceitfully buried that we were no longer living in a Democracy.

The only peoples rights that were violated in relation to Proposition 187 were those of we the people's when the dictators took over.

We had seen before when we passed laws through the petition process that they were always challenged before any chance of going into effect but when they come up with this sort of thing it is put into law with out any question.

    To far...

Hm. Might be good business to set up an ammo shop in NV, OR or AZ close to the CA border to take advtangage of all of the people who will be driving over to get ammo. As usual, another stupid law to harass law-abiding citizens.

Too late. This is just another little push against our rights, which will be non existent in another decade or so. Pretty quick we will be more of an entitlement society than we ever imagined. Here comes that health care reform that was promised.......

BTW, we will experience a 12-16% flat tax above what we currently pay between the state and the fed. It's on the floor of both offices being discussed as we speak. This is to pay for the new and improved entitlement programs that are coming.

Everyone is missing the point. This is not about making ammo hard to purchase...this is about Big Brother finding out who the gun owners are. Since gun registration is unconstitutional, they found a back door...

Of course, the Constitution has been trashed so many times over the last century, what's one more among the oppressed? If the Founding Fathers could see us now...
