President Obama, Felipe Calderon & Stephen Harper
Guadalajara, Mexico---US President Barak Obama began a two day summit here with Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Discussed were efforts to combat the H1N1 swine flu epidemic, trade and the coup in Honduras.
What generated the most interest however was Obama promising to deliver an immigration reform package early next year.
"We have a broken immigration system," he said. "Nobody denies it. Continuing on the current path means tensions with Mexico, danger for those trying to cross into the United States illegally, unfairness for those trying to immigrate legally, exploitation by unscrupulous employers, the depression of U.S. wages and other ills," Obama added.
"It's not fair, and it's not right, and we're going to change it, {It is} "important for us to sequence these big initiatives in way that they don't all crash at the same time," he said. Obama also indicated that House Democrats and Republicans have already begun the immigration reform discussion but also mentioned that Healthcare and Financial System reform will take priority.
"I anticipate before the year is out we will have draft legislation along with sponsors in the House and Senate ready to move this forward," Obama said, acknowledging that "this is going to be difficult." A core part of his plan would be to provide illegal immigrants a way "to achieve a pathway to citizenship so they don't have to live in the shadows. I'm confident we can get it done," he noted
Critics believe any plan forthcoming form the Obama administration would amount to nothing less than "amnesty" for lawbreakers. If President Obama thinks getting his healthcare package through Congress is tough, he has no idea what he is in for by allowing "Amnesty" to rear its ugly head once again. He is reportedly softening up the opposition by implementing new policies within the Department Homeland Security aimed at limiting law enforcement's ability to arrest illegal border crossers. A failure to get Universal Healthcare passed will likely stall the immigration debate even further.

Obama just stepped firmly onto the third rail! The vast majority of Americans are tired of the invasion and occupation of our homeland by 20 to 40 million illegal alien lawbreakers while Presidents refuse to enforce our laws and Congress won't even take time to read and understand bills before they vote on them. The 1986 amnesty was a total failure! Never again! If he presses it, 2010 will see the loss of both Senate and House, not that it would help Americans retake their homeland. We are being betrayed!
Estoban; your comments make me laugh so hard, immigrants are helping our country not fall completely! they are in great part holding the boat afloat, you are just an ignorant dumb redneck white trash punk and are a disgrace to us Americans.
espero y ayude a todos nuestros paisanos con una reforma migratoria por que como sus antepasados tambien fueronilegales y descriminados o hasta esclavos, que no se olvide de donde biene sus raizes
no te olvides de los mas pobres ni de todos los mojados
Why are you idiots writing comments in Spanish? This isn't Spain or Mexico. This is America. We speak English here. If you want to participate in the debate write your comments in English.
Stop confusing immigration with ILLEGAL immigration. If you got here by sneaking in you broke the law. We don't want you here.
Amnesty will never happen. Americans will prevent it. It's not about being racist or white. If you're here illegally you broke the law and are going home; period. No more cutting the line, no more pooping out offspring on American soil to get services, no more cutting wages of American workers, no more trashing our neighborhoods, parks, national forests, no more educating your anchor babies who drop out of school and join gangs to tag everything in sight; you are the cancer and we are the cure; you're finished!
Joey, is that all you can do is resort to namecalling? How juvenile! We have 13% of all American children living in poverty, 15 million Americans looking for jobs to feed and shelter their families and 160,000 veterans who will be homeless tonight, rain or shine. We can't take care of our own American people. No! Deport every last one of the lawbreaking illegal aliens that steal across our borders, steal jobs, steal our resources from our poor and homeless.
He's getting bitch slapped over health care which I think he is going to end up losing even though his own party has the majority. He wont want to try anything controversial at that point....the honeymoon is over and he is struggling with dealing with it. Our enemys see this and will force his attention elsewhere, most likely Iran. The fall deadline is coming up and thats the measuring stick for the Israelis , they wont wait after that if he does not act. Guess what im trying to say is that he wont be able to address or successfully pass any imigration stuff one way or the other.
Bring it on Mr. President, we fought against it in the past and won, and we will fight against it and win again and every single time it is brought up! American citizens and legal immigrants do not want 20 million+ illegal aliens to become citizens! If you want to come to this country just do it the legal way and we welcome you with open arms.
