Illegal Immigration: San Francisco at odds with itself over sanctuary city policies

SAn Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom defends sanctuary city policies
          SAN FRANCISCO MAYOR GAVIN NEWSOM

Caught between a rock and a crack pipe, San Francisco finds itself in a perilous position over it’s sanctuary city policies and illegal alien youth’s charged with drug crimes. Despite a gallant effort to subvert several laws at once they could ultimately endanger their ordinances that protect illegal aliens by passing a new one meant to further shield them. In a confusing array of legal mumbo jumbo and tightrope walking by the Mayor and Board of Supervisors, San Francisco is suddenly concerned about violating Federal Law. Did they have a change of heart? Did someone put something in the water? Well that would explain an awful lot for the often-bizarre way in which these politicians behave but it won’t help them resolve their new crisis.

It seems that Supervisor David Campos, himself an Illegal Immigrant from Guatemala, wants to change the laws so undocumented juveniles are turned over to federal immigration officials for possible deportation only after they're convicted of a felony - not when they're first arrested. The operative word here is “convicted”. The change, if voted on is binding and veto proof. According to information obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle, under federal law, a local government cannot prohibit its employees (read police) from providing information about an individual's immigration status. Neither the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals nor the U.S. Supreme Court has reviewed whether cities' sanctuary ordinances are legal, but passage of Campos' legislation "could prompt anti-immigrant groups to challenge the entire ordinance," the memo says.

If this all sounds confusing to you, well you’re not alone. The Mayor and Board of Supervisors’ are trying to do a two-step on existing laws while not jeopardizing the previous dance they did on Federal Law. Raise this issue and the Ninth Circuit might be compelled to review the city’s overall compliance with State and Federal Statutes and open themselves up for a brutal court beating in the process.

The legal memo issued by the City Attorney says the legislation could also jeopardize the city's defense against the Bologna family, which has filed suit over the city's former policy of shielding undocumented youths from deportation. That same policy allowed illegal alien Edwin Ramos, 22, to be on the streets last year when he allegedly killed Tony Bologna and two of his sons.

To add insult to injury, City officials are now being probed by a federal grand jury investigation as they try to ascertain how the politico’s actions violated Federal Law.

So the insanity that is San Francisco may be their undoing after all. A labyrinth of deceit and manipulation to further the agenda of various special interest groups just may catch the Mayor and the Board in it’s own tangled web. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch.

San Fransisco, home of the bleeding hearts. I was going to write a whole big thing about the lousy individuals that harbor illegals but it would do no good. There is a place for sympathy, but not for those that want something for nothing. They want to help these people out?, do it with their own money and resources. You want to be a Saint, sacrifice your own things.
