Somebody help me!

The Arizona Republic called for “immigration reform that creates a legal mechanism for temporary workers to meet labor demands, status adjustments for workers who are here, an effective system to check a worker’s status and tough sanctions for those who hire illegal immigrants.”

Under such a policy, U.S. law would not punish people who enter the country illegally. Once amnesty was granted, as the status of workers who are here was adjusted, no one would be here illegally.

Right?

If implemented an E-verify-type system solve the problem checking workers status. However, Big Biz and pro amnesty groups fight implementation at every turn. Arizona should know this better that any state considering Chamber of Commerce, et al. v. Candelaria, et al. In its lawsuit, the chamber argues that federal law prohibits states from making E-Verify use mandatory.

There should be touch sanctions on companies that hire illegal aliens. There should also be tough laws against people who enter the country illegally. Dual enforcement is the only workable solution. Another round of amnesty is not.

The newspaper says the United States has a “moral imperative” to protect idiots who attempt to walk across a desert to invade America. I don’t get it. Has Mexico no moral imperative or compassion to stop folks before they chose to die? Why blame America with its near double-digit unemployment figure for not importing poor, unskilled folks?

The good news is the Border Patrol saved 586 people is distress in the Tucson sector last year. Unfortunately, 208 suicide border-crossers were also successful. It is never the United States’ fault if people south of the border choose to act stupidly. If anything, these young workers should combat the poverty of Mexico and Central America to build them a future. Running away is not the answer.
