BlueCross Blueshield of Tennessee has completed its investigation of an October theft of computer hard drives that contained the information of about 1 million customers and, as of yet, has received no reports of the data being used illegally.
BCBS members who could be affected by the breach have been offered a year of free credit monitoring.
Chattanooga police spokeswoman Jerri Weary told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that the theft is still being investigated.
Thieves lifted the hard drives from a locked computer room at an office complex when BlueCross was moving personnel to a different location.
Police reports state the 57 hard drives were stolen Oct. 2 and the theft was discovered the following Monday when work crews returned to the office.
