Like any small community in America, the evenings are spent watching high school sports. One of the main sports for high school girls is volleyball. Here in Huntington, the varsity volleyball team had a member involved in a car crash
On November the 9th, Huntington North junior, Jill Krueger, was involved in a 2 car accident. She was airlifted to Parkview Hospital in critical condition. Her life since has been one of recovery. She was released from ICU to a normal room on the 23rd. It is being told, that she will be transferred to either St. Vincent Hospital or the Hook Center for rehabilitation.
Her fellow team members and students have pulled together to help support Ms. Krueger, along with members of the local YMCA's Leadership Group. Today, they will be raising money for her health costs by participating with the staff at the local Pizza Hut. The restaurant manager, Ralph Johnson said, “ The students will be serving, getting drinks and busing tables to raise money for Jill. We will be giving a portion of each adult buffet that's purchased at the regular price to the benefit. And all tips that the servers make, will also go to Jill”.
Jill's stepfather, Jay Rinehart said, “I'm overwhelmed. I've become cynical in my old age, where people just really don't care. If you've got a problem, it's up to you to resolve it, with apathy. In the last two weeks, I've become reeducated to a point, where I am blessed to be a resident of Huntington. We even got BP gas cards from people we don't even know.
I've come home late at night, from the hospital, and many times there may be stacks of food, stuffed animals, cards. The kids all got together and they made her a banner. It's absolutely amazing”.
The Pizza Hut benefit will be from the hours of 5pm to 8pm, today. The Pizza Hut is located at 101 Frontage Road, here in Huntington. For those local, please attend or if you order delivery or pickup, please give a donation to the benefit.
