US Christians want to jail homosexuals. It seems ludicrous in the 21st century, but some mainstream Christian organizations want to criminalize homosexual behavior in order to prevent legal recognition of gay marriage and the repeal of the US military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy.
Recently MSNBC's Chris Matthews interviewed Peter Sprigg of the Family Research Council about the U.S. military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy (DADT). Sprigg, FRC's senior fellow for policy studies, said he would support banning all gays or lesbians from serving in the military. At the end of the discussion, Matthews asked Sprigg his view of homosexuality in civilian life:
MATTHEWS: Do you think we should outlaw gay behavior?
SPRIGG: Well, I think it's certainly defensible.
MATTHEWS: I'm just asking you, should we outlaw gay behavior?
SPRIGG: I think that the Supreme Court decision in Lawrence v. Texas, which overturned the sodomy laws in this country, was wrongly decided. I think there would be a place for criminal sanctions against homosexual behavior.
MATTHEWS: So we should outlaw gay behavior.
SPRIGG: Yes.
Today the American Family Association sent out an e-mail “Action Alert” with the subject being “Obama’s new military: Gays showering with straights.” As one might expect, the email is filled with an ugly homophobia, and encourages the faithful to flood their representatives in Congress with demands not to repeal the military’s anti-gay DADT policy. Excerpt:
Gays showering with straights? Absolutely. If President Obama, congressional Democrats, and homosexual activists get their wish, your son or daughter may be forced to share military showers and barracks with active and open homosexuals who may very well view them with sexual interest. Talk about creating a hostile work environment for people who practice normative sexuality!
The alarmist paranoia is actually quite silly. The fact is gays have always showered with straights, be it in prison, the military, or High School gym class. Where ever there are communal showers, there will be gay people. Gays have always been in the military. Gays have always been with us. They always will be.
Apparently some American Christians are unwilling or unable to let go of their hate, unwilling or unable to let go of their homophobia. Whether they hide their fear and hatred behind a veil of religion, or they use religion to veil their fear and hatred matters not. They deserve at once both our scorn and our sympathy.
The American Family Association is connected with the controversial Exodus International, a clearing house for quacks who claim they can "cure the gay" with Jesus. One such group is located here in Portland, Oregon, and is known as Portland Fellowship. Such groups are a sad example of the self loathing and self hatred religious superstition and religious indoctrination breed.

Actually, they are examples of loving individuals who care enough to help other people.
"American Christians are unwilling or unable to let go of their hate ... Whether they hide their fear and hatred ... or they use religion to veil their fear and hatred ... They deserve at once both our scorn and our sympathy."
Sounds like the hateful one is you, who encourages other people to scorn Christians the way you do.
Ooooo what do those Christians want to do after all those gay people are shackled and incarcerated. I wanna know.
Réne Girard (San Diego Christianity & Culture) says:
"Actually, they are examples of loving individuals who care enough to help other people." Help? Well, perhaps they are self deluded enough to think that's what they're doing. I think they're wish to "help" is more a wish to feel superior.
Going on Rene writes:
""American Christians are unwilling or unable to let go of their hate ... Whether they hide their fear and hatred ... or they use religion to veil their fear and hatred ... They deserve at once both our scorn and our sympathy.""
Note the edited quote, removing the word "some" in the original so as to distort the meaning of the original.
"Sounds like the hateful one is you, who encourages other people to scorn Christians the way you do."
Those Christians, the ones specified by the omitted word "some" deserve our scorn. They hide behind supposed religious faith to freely express their neurotic fear. They even defile the appellation "Christian".
This is disgusting. People should put the bible down and get a clue, education and then another clue. Pure filth.
What you do in the privacy of your own bedroom with a consenting parter is your own choice - BUT what you do or say in public is & always has been subject to regulation - as well as it should be. I may have no choice but to take a communal shower with a lesbian because I do not know she is a lesbian, but if I do know she is a lesbian, I should have the right NOT to take a shower with her for the same reason I don't want to take a shower with a man unless he is my partner. I don't wish to show my nudity to anyone I KNOW finds me a sexual object. If my heterosexual female co-worker sees me naked it is irrelevant, but if my homosexual female co-worker sees me naked IT IS THE SAME AS IF A MALE heterosexual co-worker saw me naked. It is wrong. Don't ask don't tell is the BEST compromise between privacy & public decency. Stop blaming all objections to homosexuality on religion or Christianity, plenty of Muslims, Buddhists & Atheists also have had it up to our eye balls with gay-bullies.
Gayness SHOULD be illegal. The law exists to protect the safety of the public, and gayness causes damage to social safety and health. Rape, diseases, socially dysfunctional children, the breakdown of families, vegetarians causing the breakdown of traditional agriculture, mental retardation, even blizzards and other weird weather (that's a scientific fact if you doubt it look it up). Again this is not discrimination it is JUST THE TRUTH. Wake up America
Some homosexuals would like to jail Christians. (Just kidding, maybe)
i have few gay and lesbian friends i have dated alot of bi girls... i see them all the same as a human being and yes i dont want to have a gay dude being attracted to me in a shower i have to take with them letting them check me out... but i wouldnt want them messed with either... they are just humans who have diferent preferance of lovers and i see nothing wrong with that... i think its b*ll .... to treat gays like hitler treated jews ...history is repeating itself and were the bullies this time....
sounds like nazism all over again to me... like realy said this is gonna end up exactly same history is getting repeated hasnt anyone learned? and besides there can be so many things done to fix not having to shower with someone that sees you as a their sexual prefrence... you dont have to jail them... dont have to ban them from things... you dont have to make them hide... just change things around... screw all who think they should be locked up cause they have diferent beliefes you can go to hell for treating others in a way you would not want to be treated... what were to happen if gays and lesbians over populated this earth more the heterosexual's would you expect them to think same way throw us in jail for not thinking same way they do in prefrences...
Mr. Stone's irrational hatred of Christians is pathological. If he truly cared about gay people he would seek their highest good, correct. Since it is a proven fact that gays suffer in a variety of ways given the lifestyle---physically, emotionally, psychologically---would't Mr. Stone be well-advised to consider prayerful deliverance the highest expression of love. There are many, many former gay people who will gladly testify to the joy of deliverance. Will Mr. Stone every consider their voices? Demonizing Christians and canonizing gays is backward, reactionary, ignorant and destructive. What about it Mr. Stone? Care to embrace truth versus pounding the PC propaganda drum?
Jailing gays or otherwise outlawing their behavior is silly, unenforceable and a fringe agenda that cannot be attributed to Christians across the board. Christianity is not about the letter of the law. It's about grace, mercy, forgiveness and love.
In the name of love, I like what Tibet Tim wrote.
Anyone notice Christians pretty much leave homosexuals alone, but homosexual activists are constantly assaulting Christians, and yet, the Christians are characterized as the hate mongers.
Homosexual activists are always up in people's faces, and when they get negative push back, they whine.
I liked it better when people left one another alone and didn't make such a big deal out of things. Pushing gay marriage, and pushing the lifestyle on youth in the public schools, and hate crimes legislation and hauling straight people before human rights commissions will not take us in healthy directions.
Instead, more strife and violence on the horizon. And that will be primarily the fault of the 'in-your-face' homosexual activists. Sometimes I think they want blood to run so they can demonize straight people all the more.
Micha J. Stone is one of the convenient dupes advocating strife.
the title of this article is "US Christians want to jail homosexuals"...Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't Peter Sprigg one person? He is advocating (wrongly) criminal behavior for homosexuals--not "US Christians" in the article above.
I think that biggot's first boy friend dick-slapped his head when he was 15 and his brain never recovered. People like that should be treated for schizophrenia, they've got it and they're taking the drugs.
I don't hate gay people, I just don't want to be around them! I should have that right as an American to decide that and not have it shoved in my face everytime I turn around. You want to be gay great, do it in your house in private like I do. Its between you, your lover and God. I don't see my name in there anywhere. I have an uncle that is gay and I love every bit of him as he is. But he respects me as well and doesn't flaunt it in front of me!
