KRS-One
Rap pioneer KRS-One is the self proclaimed prophet of a new religion: Hip-Hop religion. KRS-One announced he will soon release The Gospel of Hip Hop: The First Instrument, a 600-page book that examines the spirituality of Hip-Hop culture. The Hip-hop artist and founder of the Stop the Violence Movement, KRS-One, aka Boogie Down Production’s “Teacha”, claims his soon to be released spiritual book is the announcement of a new Hip-Hop religion on earth.
"I'm suggesting that in 100 years, this book will be a new religion on the earth," KRS-One said of his new book, which claims hip-hop to be the world's dominant new religion.
Well, I think I have the authority to approach God directly, I don't have to go through any religion...
I can approach God directly myself and so I wrote a book called The Gospel of Hip Hop to free us from all this nonsense garbage right now. I respect the Christianity, the Islam, the Judaism but their time is up." To recap: KRS-One's book is the new Bible, it's going to be the best selling book on earth, and no matter what God thinks, hip-hop is the new religion of the world.
The Temple of Hiphop is a ministry, archive, School, and Society (M.A.S.S.) founded by KRS-One. Its goal is to maintain and promote hip hop culture. The Temple of Hiphop maintains that hip hop is a genuine political movement and culture, as it has been accepted by the United Nations as a culture. The Temple of Hiphop calls on all hip hop fans to celebrate Hip Hop Appreciation Week, occurring in the third week of May. It encourages DJs and MCs to teach people about the culture of Hip, to write more socially conscious songs, and radio stations to play more socially conscious hip hop. Hip Hop Appreciation Week is celebrated on the third week of May each year. Hip Hop History Month (November), founded by the Universal Zulu Nation, is also recognized.

"hip-hop is the new religion of the world"? I like hip hop as a music, but as a religion? U gots to be kidding.
Now I know KRS has lost his mind.
I been a hip hop fan since I was 11 years young. I am 38 this year(october 10th). Hip hop as a religion. I am not so sure about that. To many people don't even know what hip hop is.
Anyone can rap. But how many artists out there are hip hop.
How many artists represent real hip hop.
When was the last show you saw rappers. Dj's. Graff artists. Dancers(bboys bgirls) beatbox.
Most these artists now days are rappers. Anyone can rap.

It's an interesting idea, actually.
Hip-hop has, in fact, all the ingredients necessary to become a religion.
I'm not all for it myself but at the same time, I'm not all against it.
Maybe that's what the founders of this cultural movement had in mind from the very beginning?
To establish a new set of values and principles for people to follow because the old one was wrong from their point of view.
I, for example, believe in the things hip-hop has taught me more than in any orgnized religion out there, but thet's just me.
I also wouldn't dismiss the idea that hip-hop may eventually become a religion in the future.
After all, Christianity was once just a bunch of people doing wierd stuff, where as now it's... tons of people doing wierd stuff :) (I think I'm kind of lost in my own thoughts here).
To be continued...
Part 2
However, I don't believe that KRS One can claim that he's the great prophet that speaks the ultimate truth and that he alone can write a bible for the future religion that hip-hop may or may not become.
One would have to be a fool to consider himself legitimate enough to write a whole bible by himself.
Although I do think that KRS is brilliant, I also think that he should consider the fact that he's not as perfect as he thinks he is.
He is a great man who shares his great ideas through his music, lectures etc. but he's also human like every one of us and he makes mistakes too.
so let's consider his statement about this book being the future bible of hip-hop as a mistake of a human being, not as something we can use to look down on him.
p.s. I'd love to read that book though.
..and his wife is a preacher.. wow...
what a nut case, I love hip-hop as a cultural perspective but I will not pray to "hip-hop" bullshit is that? Islam is the only way.
KRS-1 suggested "in 100 years, this book will be a new religion on the earth." He didn't say he would promote such a religion. God is within him, you and me. He can communicate with God because he KNOWS God, as he knows himself. I know of no one else a capable as he is to write a "gospel" of Hip-Hop. Religion is incompetent.
wonderful article, thanks for posting it.
hip hop's time has come. it's the sacred music of our current times. i hear ya........
yall clearly aint on the same page with KRS one .If you understand the 5elements of hiphop you wil know what hiphop is,hiphop is a culture its more than music.Half of yall dont realy know what hiphop is ,hiphop aint musuc.I have a copy ofthe book he is on point .yall is brainwashed by the government thats why you hating.
If any of my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ are reading, i pray that you are not fooled by this. this is definitely false teaching so i pray you are not led astray. 2 John 2:9 and Jude 17-18 are just a couple of verses that point out the error in this mans ways. continue to seek God and God only. do not be deceived.
i cant even believe for a second that this would ever be condoned by the God i serve, for Christ says that i am the way the truth and the life and no man may come unto the father except through the son. KRS one trying to fabricate a new religion based in what? A man made secular based music, who's theme is about rapping and glorifying everything that God is not, lust of the flesh, materialism, sex, drugs, perversion. In case noone has noticed that is the culture of hip hop. So now ask yourself is the complementary to what God would advocate for, surely NOT! God is not about religions, he is about believing and abiding by his word. Religions are an excuse to implement conformity based off the beliefs of the one or one's who would create it. Rather what i would ask him is, did he consult with God to convey something for the world to get saved, and recieve salvation and eternal life. His religion is going to be nothing more than a false docterine operating under false pretenses.
Come on people, God gave you common sense as a gift to mankind. Use it to its fullest and learn when to see steam being blown out of someone's ass such as The gospel of Hip Hop or the Hip Hop bible, will be the new religion in 100 yrs. Im sorry, but I just don't see God approving a slang version of his word. Beware of false Prophets people.
Hip Hop is based on the belief of the 5 Percent Nation that worship and beleive in idols of Greek Mythology. As far as Hip Hop being the number 1 religion, well lets just say that Hip Hop is not propnesied in the Bible and the Bilble is a 100% true doctrine. God does not lie. Satan's days are numbered just like ours. Satan will have his day in the conclusion of The 70th Year Daniel. Jesus Christ has the final say in all of this.
Hip Hop has always been a religion with many faithful followers. Some of the main players of the early Hip Hop movement incorporated their new age type beliefs in their lyrics. They were on a mission and new exactly what they were preaching. Check out zulunation.com. Listen to Afrika Bambaata's (sp?) lyrics again and really think about what they are saying. Too many people don't pay attention to what they listening too and to what they they are repeating.
this brotha (krs 1) is totally lost....God (JESUS) will not allow this to be.....krs 1 better watch his words as well before the rath of GOD (JESUS) comes againat him......BEWARE OF FALSE PROPHETS!
