The Illinois Family Institute is a Christian hate group dedicated to making life miserable for the gay community. Not surprisingly, the Institute opposes hate crime legislation or any legal protection based on gender identity or sexual orientation. What may come as a surprise, however, is that the group favors the bullying of gay children and young adults.
The group claims that Christians are the victims, that Christians are being oppressed by the Homosexual Agenda. Such an assertion is laughable. For centuries Christians have been the oppressors, forcing all those who differ to conform and submit, or face the consequences. Finally we are reaching a place of civility in society where homosexuals are afforded the simple dignities that all people expect.
Yet some are deeply uncomfortable with anything resembling fair and just treatment for homosexuals. The Illinois Family Institute represents such people: People filled with religious bigotry and hate.
The Illinois Family Institute (IFI) is a vile sewer of hate and ignorance. The group is engaged in a campaign of gay bashing homophobia. The organization seems dedicated to denigrating anyone who does not goose step to their Christian fundamentalism. Obviously, any organization that claims the gay community is just as dangerous as Nazis is out of touch with reality and hard to take seriously.
Comparing homosexuality to Nazism is not only disgusting, it's also dangerous, an invitation to violence. The article comparing homosexuals to Nazis was written by Laurie Higgins, a director at IFI. Higgins, who claims to have once worked as an educator, is an alarming and dangerous figure.
Indeed, those who have bothered to study the hate speech and inflammatory positions of Higgins have made the following claims:
"it's quite clear that [Laurie Higgins] does not at all wish that the bullying of gay kids should end at all."
"Higgins actually supports making schools unsafe for gay kids."
"Higgins believes that adults - teachers and administrators - should also condemn gay kids."
"[Higgins] believes it is a Christian kid's duty to bully his gay classmates."
"[Higgins] endorses the . . . ridicule . . . of others."
Strong claims. Sadly, they are accurate. This moral monster would rather see gay youth bullied, harassed, and even beaten, rather than grant them recognition as fellow human beings, entitled to the same simple dignity and respect that all human beings are entitled to.
This moral monster, Laurie Higgins, speaks for a legion of moral monsters who hide their bigotry and hate behind a Bible.
Recently Laurie Higgins has engaged in a despicable and cowardly smear campaign on noted blogger Hemant Mehta, the Friendly Atheist. In response, the Portland Humanist wrote an article condemning Higgins for her attempt to ruin a good man's reputation, and exposing her as a hate mongering coward.
Higgins is on record as favoring the bullying and harassment of gay children by Christian children. She is engaged in an effort to prevent any legislation which prohibits or penalizes discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identification. She believes it is a Christian's God given right to abuse and harass gay adults as well as gay youth.
Evidence for the claim comes from the IFI website, and Higgins own words. Higgins writes:
"If you care about children's temporal and eternal lives, please oppose any anti-bullying efforts in public schools that imply that homosexual behavior is worthy of affirmation."
A simple logical analysis of Higgins' statement reveals the ugly truth. Two negatives make a positive. If you are against the prevention of bullying than you are for bullying. Refusal to prevent is the same as tacit approval.
With a wink and a nod Higgins encourages the abuse of gay youth. The woman is a moral monster, and her organization is a hate group.
Again one must ask, where are the good Christians? Why will they not stand up as one and condemn this moral monstrosity?

Laurie Higgins is clearly Satan's servant.

I've seen this question asked many times over the years and I have thought about it for a long time now and I think the reason is simple. They ALL have the ingrained bigotry of their mental disease (religion) deep down inside themselves and it's just that only a few have the guts to say it publicly. Most don't even realize they are bigots. Same can be said about Muslims being so silent in the face of all the atrocities taking place in the name of Islam to this very day. It's either agreement or fear that is keeping them silent and religion knows all about fear. Conform or burn in hell forever you miserable sinner!
You cannot render anything a moral entity until it is independently justifiable on the basis of science and its conceptual quantification. So far it is only defined under man and woman. Give us something to work on and I for one shall reconsider.
Pretty strong words you've invoked in this "article"...it almost sounds, um, hateful.
I am so sad to hear about people who claim to be Christians doing this. I'm a follower of Jesus Christ and I can tell you that in Jesus there should be no bullying or prejudice against others. He made it clear that God loves all people and wants equality, love and justice for all. Please know that not all Christians are disgusting bigots... in fact following Jesus should make us the opposite of that. We are supposed to embrace and love and respect all people. To me, these people in this article don't sound like they can possibly be true followers of Jesus. Jesus is nothing at all like what these people are modeling.
Just a note there are good Christians who love diversity and work towards social justice... but, just like peaceful members of other religions, they are the quiet ones on the ground doing the hard, servant-like work... unfortunately the bigoted, messed-up ones tend to be the loud ones and make a bad name for Christ--they tend to get all the publicity because they want the publicity to push forward their agenda that has nothing to do with Jesus. Jesus is nothing like those bigots.
Well mate, Yahweh hates gays (and shellfish and yeast), it says so in the Old Testament. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Jesus seemed to stay away from mentioning sodomy at all, so Christians must fall back on the Old Testament interpretation.
This is the absolute law that is handed to Christians via their God and collated in the Bible; it cannot therefore be argued against, or cherry-picked from.
Any Christian defending gays is guilty of believing that law and morality is defined by human beings, this makes them lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot; something Jesus is none too fond of.
