In Saudi Arabia a 10 year old child bride has been returned to her 80 year old husband. The father of the child forced the young girl to return to her "husband", after she had been found hiding at the home of her aunt. Such a perverse and obscene relationship is a valid marriage under Sharia Law.
The husband of the child bride denies being 80 years old, and is angry with the aunt for hiding the girl and violating the terms of the marriage. Speaking to a local newspaper the pedophile-husband claimed: "My marriage is not against Sharia. It included the elements of acceptance and response by the father of the bride.”
There is something profoundly disturbing about a culture that would abuse young girls in this way. Somethings are simply wrong, regardless of cultural norms. This is one such thing. This poor little girl is ruined before her life has even begun. She is condemned to a life of sexual bondage and servitude.
Last year, international media reported on a court ruling that denied a motion to annul the marriage of an 8-year-old girl to a 47-year-old man. The kingdom’s Human Rights Commission said at the time that they were trying to fight the problem of child marriages in the country. Clearly they are miserable failures. Indeed, the whole society is complicit in the child abuse. It is an ugly, shameful thing that stains every resident of the Kingdom.
Meanwhile in Saudi Arabia, the religious police are cracking down hard on the circus, claiming that "magical" performances (such as fire eating and laying on a bed of glass) violate Sharia.

While I do agree that this is a horrible,
I do understand in the difficulty of being to crack down on something that is a norm to such a large group of people,
but I do disagree with the insignificance that you place on the circus industry,
for that too deserves a very well deal of attention.
What an inaccurate, biased article. First of all a marriage like this is NOT valid under Sharia Law. No marriage is valid without the bride's consent, and she must be a girl that has gone through puberty, not a child! Her father or her family or anyone else for that matter is NOT allowed to pressure her into saying "yes".
Get your damn facts right before you publish this nonsense.
I AGREE THIS IS A HORRIBLE THING ITS NOT ONLY AGAINST MAN BUT ITS AGAINST GOD AS WELL HE DIDNT PUT US HERE TO ABUSE KIDS BOYS OR GIRLS! I DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SHARIA BUT IN ANY CASE EVEN IF A GIRL WENT THROUGH PUBERTY ALREADY IT DOESNT MEAN SHES READY FOR MARRIAGE.
So if the "child" gives so called permission for the "marriage" without realising what the agreement means thats ok. Even if she has gone through puberty in a western context (which i realise automatically means ignorance)she is still deemed to be a minor and therefore the husband is seen as a pedophile.
