R.I. florists refuse to deliver flowers to teen atheist Ahlquist

Prayer banner controversy continues - florists refuse to deliver flowers to young atheist - Christians work overtime to be mean to a 16 year old girl.

Young teen atheist Jessica Ahlquist continues to be the target of Christian rage after successfully leading a campaign to have an unconstitutional prayer banner removed from her public high school auditorium.

Wednesday four different Rhode Island florists in the Cranston area refused to deliver flowers to Jessica Ahlquist. At least one florist claimed to be frightened of the potential backlash from angry Christians who do not want Jessica to receive any flowers.

Thursday, the Freedom From Religion Foundation filed a formal complaint with the State of Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights, alleging “illegal discrimination based on religion.”

Jessica has been the target of threats, harassment and abuse ever since a federal court ordered the removal of a controversial and unconstitutional prayer banner hanging in the auditorium of her high school earlier this month.

After the court ruling Jessica was the victim of a vicious social media campaign. Jessica  faced a blizzard of taunts, abuse, and threats of physical violence on Twitter and Facebook.  Many of the vile and objectionable threats and taunts came from adults, and almost all came from those that identify themselves as Christian.

Jessica was even harrassed and taunted by Rhode Island State Representative Peter Palumbo, who recently referred to Ahlquist as “an evil little thing," because she had the courage to do the right thing, and take a stand for the U.S. Constitution.

Eventually an out state florist, Glimpse of Gaia, located in  Putnam, Conneticut, had the courage and decency to deliver flowers to Jessica.

The anger and venom being directed at 16 year old Jessica Ahlquist is astonishing. Many in Rhode Island seem determined to punish Jessica for standing up for her convictions. It is a sad commentary, and a stinging indictment of those so lacking in humanity that they would take pleasure and satisfaction in denying flowers to a 16 year old girl.
