Tampa Bay's Coalition of Reason pose for a photo with their billboard
Freethinkers from across the bay area assembled beneath the Tampa Bay Coalition of Reason billboard in Tampa today, February 20, 2010. About 55 people attend this event at the corner of Fowler and 17th Street before heading to Denny’s to eat breakfast and socialize.
The purpose of taking this photo was to show people the face of Freethought and reason community in the Tampa Bay area. Andrea Steele, organizer for the Freethought Film Festival and communications director for the Coalition of Reason in Tampa attended the event and exclaimed “it was so great to see that big of a turnout.”
Among those in attendance was Rick O’Keefe of the Center for Inquiry Tampa, Rob Curry the executive director for the Atheists of Florida, and David Williamson who organizes the Suncoast Skeptics down in Sarasota.
The photo of the event does clearly show why the owners of the Christian car wash underneath the sign are upset. The billboard is located directly above them. Though as the Coalition of Reason has previously pointed out, they didn’t choose that location to upset the people at the car wash, they simply chose their location based on traffic and what they could afford.
