Rob Curry, Atheists of Florida
Rob Curry was hired this week by the Atheists of Florida to serve as their first ever paid executive director. An atheist since the age of 16, Rob has been volunteering with the Atheists of Florida since 2006 and up until this past week, served on their board of directors.
Rob self labels himself as a friendly atheist and says that in an ideal world his atheism “really shouldn't matter. Yet so often we find that it does.” He claims his personal philosophy can “fairly be described as Humanist.” He is an amateur mathematician who enjoys reading science fiction. And he has volunteered his time as a math tutor for both high school and elementary school kids.
The Atheists of Florida decided on January 31st to hire their first paid staff member because their recent growth and potential for expansion dictate the need for a paid staff member to manage the day to day affairs of the organization.
As the new executive director for the Atheists of Florida Rob hopes to “work very closely with others, both within and outside Atheists of Florida, to successfully pursue our positive goals during this expected period of expansion.” Those goals include fighting for equal protection under the law for the estimated 2 million atheists living in Florida today. According to Rob, “we (atheists) just want to be treated with the same understanding and respect that we offer to others.”
