NORTH AMERICA

District of Columbia: A new bill to address child exploitation by sex traffickers is introduced into the House this week. The bill would add $45 million to law enforcement and victim assistance efforts. The proposed bill is a legislative response to the findings of of a 2009 study on domestic minor sex trafficking. 

California: Cotati city officials are considering city ordinance against massage parlors. The officials say that Cotati has many massage parlors that are running as brothels. The evidence is based on the police investigation and complaint by the residents. 

Arizona: A 41 year old man is facing a child prostitution charge for allegedly bribing a teen girl with gifts in exchange for sex. The police was notified by the 16 year old victims' friend after the victim told her friend about two years long sexual relationship with the man. 

Tennessee:  Memphis man gets 25 years old for sex trafficking. He also pleaded guilty to child prostitution charges. He recruited underage girls to engage in prostitution for his financial benefits. 

ASIA

India: India remains as a hub of child trafficking according to 2009 Trafficking in Person report. 

UAE: A 26 year old domestic servant and four men were sentenced to 5 years in jail for sex trafficking a 20 year old woman. The 26 year old woman lured the 20 year old victim into coming to UAE with a promise of job. But, when she arrived, the woman forced the victim into prostitution and prison her in a room against her will. 

Indonesia: Sabah is a major destination for the victims of bonded labor. The agents recruit them and offer them to employment agencies. But the victims are told that they would not be paid until they pay off their debts. 

Australia: An Australia filmmaker reveals the reality of children who are trafficked to brothels in Mumbai. They are trafficked before they were even teenagers. The film consists of the interviews with the children who talk about their lives as trafficked victims. The filmmaker also interviews the trafficker who justifies his wrong deeds as misconduct. 

Taiwan: A woman is charged with human trafficking and prostituting other women. She recruited Chinese women and send them to Australian brothels all over the countries. She not only received agency fees but also kept the portion of the profits from each sexual transaction that the victims were involved. The woman was sentenced five years in jail.  

AFRICA

Zimbabwe:  Zimbabwe receives criticism from U.S. State department on child labor in diamond mine. But the authority denied that it is a false accusation. The authority also added that the diamond mines are surrounded by the police is there for peace keeping operation. 

South Africa: New report says sports event like World Cup does not increase human trafficking. According to the report, the study was conducted after the World Cup in Germany, and there were only five cases of human trafficking in the country, which is far from the estimation of 40,000 sex trafficking victims. The report also added that most reports on human trafficking are based on estimation and claims.
