Nevada: Law enforcement officials turn a blind eye to sex trafficking victims in Las Vegas. According to the Share Hope International, the average age of child prostitutes is between 12 and 14. And, human trafficking in massage parlors involves international from South Asian countries who are sexually exploited. But, the law still treats minor sex trafficking victims as criminals. Also, there is need for further prosecution of taxi drivers who work as patrons for the pimps in massage parlors to fight against sex trafficking in Las Vegas.
Tennessee: A man was indicted on four counts of sex trafficking charges. The indictment states that he forced two minors and women into prostitution between 2006 and 2009 for his profit. He also committed food stamp fraud in order to provide food for the female victims on his behalf. If convicted, he could face maximum sentence of life in prison.
Illinois: According to a state attorney general, child pornography is a multibillion dollar industry in the U.S. More than 100,000 Web sites offer illegal child pornography. Many images involve perverted sexual exploitation of children including, rape, penetration with objects, and bestiality involving children.More than half of children exploited have not reached puberty, and 6% of the pornography victims involve infants.
ASIA
Philippines: The number of trafficking victims in one city hit the highest during the first half of this year. According to a nonprofit organization, the number of victims it assisted were 227 in the first half of this year, the highest number that they have ever received. Also, 63 of those victims were young girls.
India: A Nepali woman was arrested for running an international human trafficking ring. According to the report, she and, two other individuals, recruited young women from Nepal and smuggle them to Kuwait with forged documents. Whether the women were trafficked for labor exploitation or prostitution is unknown.
Malaysia: Police rescued 14 women trafficked from Philippines and Vietnam during the raid. According to the report, they were locked up in a room and sexually enslaved by the traffickers. Police also arrested three men who allegedly pimped on these women on human trafficking charges. The victims were sent to a shelter for assistance.
Cambodia: A mother was arrested for attempting to send her 16 years old daughter as a domestic helper in Malaysia. She lied to the employment agency about her daughter's age. Police also found other 24 minors who were trained by the same training program as the girl was to be able to work in Malaysia.
