Rosie O'Donnell should sit in for Artie Lange

Life without Artie Lange isn't easy for Howard Stern Show fans.

Artie Lange has been missing from the Howard Stern Show since December 2009, and is currently recovering at an undisclosed location after a suicide attempt in early January 2010.

The stripped down Artie Lange-free version of the Howard Stern Show is still funny, but there's clearly something missing-a quick-witted, brutally honest, controversial and fearless Prince to back up the King of All Media.  The Howard Stern Show has had a couple of comedians sit in in an attempt to add a little bit of what's missing, but both Greg Fitzsimmons and Gilbert Gottfried's recent guest appearances reminded many Howard Stern Show fans just how extraordinary Artie Lange was on air.

So--Howard Stern can't find a temporary prince, what about a queen?  Rosie O'Donnell has become a suprise friend and supporter of the Howard Stern Show in the past two years.  Howard Stern thought she was so good as a guest on the Howard Stern Show, that he recommended her for her own Sirius XM talk show.

'Rosie Radio' launched in November 2009, and since then Rosie O'Donnell has been back in the media realm in full force with late night talk show appearances, her own new HBO documentary and even a crossover broadcast between Rosie Radio and the Howard Stern Show on Thursday morning.  Fans will have to wait until Monday's live Howard Stern Show broadcast to hear reviews of the crossover show from both listeners and Stern himself, but even those who may state that they hated the merger will find it hard to deny that there was a palpable energy between Howard Stern and Rosie O'Donnell during the broadcast.

Sirius XM executives, Howard Stern Show producers and even Howard Stern himself have all said that Artie Lange's microphone will be waiting for him when and if he is suffficiently recoved to return to air, and lord knows Rosie O'Donnell would be the last one to 'pull a Jay Leno' and try to steal someone's job out from under them--especially someone as vulnerable as Artie Lange is right now, but lots of shows have guest co-hosts when one of their stars is off squeezing out a baby or recovering from plastic surgery.  With a trusted comedic colleague like Rosie O'Donnell warming Artie Lange's chair, everyone could feel pretty confident that Rosie O'Donnell would gladly 'give up the keys to the bus' when Artie Lange was ready to get back in the driver's seat again.

Rosie O'Donnell thinks Jay Leno sucks

If 2010 is really the final year of the Howard Stern Show, fans are going to be expecting the 30-odd year run to end with a bang, and bringing Howard Stern's former foe Rosie O'Donnell face to face with him every morning could be one way to keep the magic alive without making beloved Artie Lange feel kicked to the curb.

I think the two of them are great together--both are so
sharp, funny& outspoken. But although she would make
a much better temporary sidekick than Gilbert, her own
radio show should be her main attraction. They could continue
to crossover onto eachother's shows, but not on a daily basis.

Debbie S. "you think"? Who the hell is going to listen to it?
The Stern Show use to be sick comedy for men and cool chicks, not a yenta session.

    PS: Gilbert rules, fire Howard.

Artie and Gilbert would be 1000x funnier than Stern has in the last 10 years.

Howard took pity on the out-of-work heifer and threw her a little Sirius show, but none of his fans have any desire to hear her whining and kvetching all morning every morning. If you just want to fill the seat with an available amateur from elsewhere on the Howard channels, Riley Martin has seniority and is at least amusing. (And nobody wants to hear him on Stern all day either, but JEEEE-ZUSS! there's no duller deadlier hour of radio than Rosie's daily slot.)
