Martling makes bid for Artie Lange's job

Former Howard Stern Show sidekick Jackie Martling made a shameless bid for current co-host Artie Lange's seat Wednesday morning. Artie Lange is currently recovering from a suicide attempt at an undisclosed facility.

Martling walked away from the Howard Stern Show in 2001 because he was unhappy with his salary, but "The Jokeman" has changed his tune since trying to fend for himself in the entertainment world over the last nine years.

"You give me the deal I walked away from, I'll start tomorrow," said Martling on Wednesday morning's Howard Stern Show broadcast.

The Howard Stern Show has forged on without a comedian in the second banana seat since Artie Lange was ordered to take time off by Sirius XM management due to health concerns in mid-December. Artie Lange attempted suicide by stabbing several weeks later.

None of the Howard Stern Show cast members seemed interested in Martling's offer. Howard Stern told him: "You walked away at the wrong time."

Howard Stern Show news mistress and female voice of reason Robin Quivers couldn't wait to tell Jack Martling she was against his proposal: "You have no idea how light this place got when you left," she said bluntly.

Howard Stern and Sirius XM VP Tim Sabean have both stated that Artie Lange's chair will be ready and waiting for him if and when the troubled comedian feels ready to rejoin the cast, but Jackie Martling isn't the first comedian to try to grab the brass ring Artie Lange left strewn under his chair. Stand up comedians Greg Fitzsimmons and Gilbert Gottfried each took turns guest co-hosting in Artie's absence.

The best thing about Jackie on the show was Fred impersonating him and Howard making fun of his crap CDs and junk he tried to sell all the time. Jackie is a non comedian who has to call himself "Jokeman" otherwise nobody would know what his alleged function is.

Get well Artie. Loved your book.

I want to see a resilient Artie Lange take back his seat on the show. I would never want to see him replaced. But I do not think it is fair to throw Fitzsimmons and Godfried under the same bus as Martling like you just did. I don't remember either Godfried or Fitz gunning for Artie's seat. They were booked on the show as many comedians have been over the years. Seems like you are bending reality to attribute their appearances to anything other than these two guys taking advantage of an opportunitiy to market their acts. You took a bit of a low blow at those guys.

Jackie can beg for the job on his hands and knees if he wants, but it will never happen. NO way Howard, Robin and Fred will put up with his shenanigans again. They simply do not need his stress. Which is a pity, I think all that stress and tension makes the show better overall. Ohwell.

The last line of this story is factaully incorrect "Stand up comedians Greg Fitzsimmons and Gilbert Gottfried each took turns guest co-hosting in Artie's absence." They both came in at the end of the show to promote there own projects and were not even there for about 1/4 of the show. Guest hosting would mean your there for the whole show. Both are frequent guests to the show and Craig Fitzsimmons has own show on Howard 101. Liz Brown should check her facts. No one has filled in for Artie since Artie has been out.

Hey JM--before you keep talking about fact checking, please note that it's GREG Fitzsimmons--not CRAIG Fitzsimmons--DOUCHE!

How can a brass ring be "strewn" under a chair?

Jackie was infinitely funnier than Artie is. Artie's just "The Fat Guy".

why cant we have both artie and Jackie? Howard gets paid 100 million a year. He could afford it. Send Benji to the back room like before.

No way will they let Jackie come back. First of all, he's not funny. When was the last time you saw a professional comedian laugh at his own jokes and state "Come on, this is killer stuff."? He's a hack who got what he deserved when he walked off the show. Artie is more funny when he's sleeping than Jackie ever was.

The show was far better with Jackie and Billy West. It's a pale shadow of what it used to be.
