Howard Stern tells listeners: 'I'm leaving' Sirius XM

The Howard Stern Show fan website SternShowBlog.com is reporting that Howard Stern exploded on air Wednesday morning and rashly announced that he will be leaving Sirius XM when his contract expires in January 2011.

After an extensive discussion of Howard Stern's must publicized negotiations to renew his contract with Sirius XM on Wednesday morning's Howard Stern Show, Stern finally erupted into a neurotic rage:

“I’m not negotiating with anybody. I don’t even need to be here! There’s nothing to negotiate! It's time to leave!”

Fans of the Howard Stern Show still don't know if Howard Stern is for real, or if his announcement is just a result of the media king's general neurosis and frustration about pending negotiations.

SternShowBlog says that Sirius XM big cheese Mel Karmazin said of the negotiation process:
“I could tell you, it will start with Howard feeling that he is working too hard and doing too many shows and not making enough money,” but Mel will say, ‘We want you to do more, and get less money.”

“I’m finished, I don’t want to work anymore, I’m leaving,” said Howard Stern.  “I’m going to sign with a company that’s stock price is 75 cents, so I can make some money!"

Howard Stern Show fans know that this doesn't mean that anything's official.  It's just another step in the dance between one of America's most influential media mogul's and the company that he put on the map.

Considering that Howard changes his mind about staying/leaving with the frequency most of us change our sheets, this is just another in a long line of hollow declarations. Next week he'll say that he's still considering staying.

He NEEDS to go. He's like a pitcher that used to throw 100mph and strike everybody out. Today he gets up to 70mph on a good day and has about a 12.54 ERA.

And where is he going? Terrestrial radio? Keep dreaming. His contract runs for another year and this is posturing in the negotiating process. The news media seems to miss everything positive regarding the company. Funny how someone who was deemed irrelevant is now all over the news.

He loves himself to much to retire. If he goes back to terr. radio he is under the FCC guidlines of content. He could start his own channel via computor & download onto I-Pods etc. So the bottom line is he'll sign up w/ Sirius Xm for the same kind of money and get something thrown in to make it look like Mel sweetened the deal. I think by the time his contract comes up Sirius Xm will be in a better position than it is today. Which will allow them to keep Howard happy.

Stern left the show long ago and only the sycophantic fools are still hanging on. Who cares what he does? Whatever that ends up being he'll only intensify the crap he's throwing up on his show now.

If Stern was to return to regular radio I assure he would be number 1 in the markets he's in within 3 to 6 months. It would be a way of authenticating his on air talent.

I've only been listening to him since he has been on Sirius and I'm sorry I didn't listen sooner. In my opinion he does the best interviews of anyone I have heard on radio.
