Howard Stern trashed American Idol judge Simon Cowell Tuesday in response to the Brit's statement that Stern was neither good-looking nor experienced enough to take over his position on Idol's Season 10.

Cowell says Howard Stern couldn't replace him on 'Idol', Perez Hilton a maybe

Stern launched into a snide diatribe on Tuesday morning's Howard Stern Show, mocking Cowell's assertions that judging American Idol takes a unique set of qualifications:

"Is there a person out there who watches the show who doesn't have an opinion? Everyone's qualified! You go: 'Hey, I think that's very commercial and it would sell.' Is there a person out there who didn't watch from season to season and know who was good and who was bad? I mean, can you really, seriously say you're a good judge and I'm not capable of judging? I mean, this is an Englishman judging who is an American Idol, a guy who worked for two record companies and failed, was essentially bankrupted."

The failed record companies that Howard Stern referred to were early Simon Cowell endeavors E & S Music and Fanfare Records, both of which failed during the 1980s and eventually forced Cowell to move back in with his parents before finding superstardom with American Idol over a decade later.

After trashing Simon Cowell's career history, Howard Stern told his audience that the British V-neck-o-phile's statements are driven by fear that the King of All Media might be the one person who could make the American Idol franchise successful without it's original star.

"I suspect he sh--s his pants when he thinks about me becoming a judge because quite frankly, I'd probably be really an interesting choice. A.) I'm visually interesting to look at. Yeah, a bit of a train wreck, but visually intersting. Secondly, I ahve an intersting opinion."

Howard Stern Show co-host Robin Quivers chimed in on the Simon Cowell verbal effigy: "You also do something that other people judge. Simon doesn't do anything".

Have to disagree with Howard on this one. The judges don't just criticize, they also give constructive advice to help them succeed. Can't see Howard doing that!

I have to disagree with Liza Jelly. The judges do not give real constructive criticism. They give hackneyed responses with no substance...especially musically speaking. E.G. use of word pitchy...
