With hundreds of online news outlets dishing and redishing out every morsel of Artie Lange news that comes across the wire, stories about Artie Lange are clearly a commodity for online writers.
TMZ reported Artie Lange's hospitalization last Saturday with a short, vague statement from an unnamed Artie Lange representative: "I can confirm that Artie is in the hospital. Artie has chosen to keep all information on this matter between him and his doctor. There will be no further comment."
TMZ, which reported Michael Jackson's death within 45 minutes of doctors calling it in the ER, hasn't said a word on Artie Lange since then. It was a full five days before the New York Post finally identified a source sleazy enough to share details on Artie Lange's suicide attempt--unheard of in celebrity gossip circles.
Other evidence that the King of All Media may have struck a deal to protect Artie Lange and his family from the paparazzi fray with a lengthy discussion about TMZ on Tuesday's Howard Stern Show. Those who scoff at the idea that Howard Stern giving TMZ a lengthy plug could possibly bring in the same kind of cash about a story on Artie Lange may be surprised to know that the even the most obscure topics talked about on the Howard Stern Show usually reach the Google Trends Top 5 shortly after Howard Stern discusses them.
Academy Award winning acting icon recently stated that his Howard Stern Show call-in interview has gotten him more feedback from fans on the street than almost any other acting performance in his career history.
TMZ has still posted zero updates on the Artie Lange story since last Saturday's statement. What other possible explanation could there be for TMZ not covering the Artie Lange story? Nobody's buying the "Harvey Levin may actually be holding on to some remnants of his sould" argument, and Howard Stern is, after all, the King of all Media.
