David Letterman made Brian Williams squirm Monday when the Late Show host flat out told the NBC Nightly News anchor to stop making appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
"I don't like it when you go on that show," Letterman told Williams. "Could you not go on that show?"
Howard Stern has made repeated public statements about his hatred of Jay Leno and has also accused him of regularly stealing Howard Stern Show material for The Tonight Show. When Leno made his return to his 11:30PM spot after the failure of The Jay Leno Show, Stern booked himself on the Early Show for the express purpose of ripping in to Leno.

Williams tried to deflect the statement with humor by saying Leno says the same thing about him, but Letterman wasn't having it.
"I like to think of you and me as more real guys as opposed to you and Jay," said Letterman. "I mean, you and I have sort of a symbiotic king of a thing going here, where as you and Jay are kind of just,..." then Letterman launched into a whiny imitation of Leno saying: "Heyy,...how's it going."
Letterman also ripped on Leno's comedy stylings, interviewing skills and said "he's got more cars than Avis, but that's fine."
Williams bobbed and weaved liked Muhammed Ali and attempted to change the subject to Regis Philbin, but Letterman made him cringe a bit longer.
"I'm just trying to tell you--you belong here," said Letterman.
