'American Idol': How much would Howard Stern cost?

Friday's news that American Idol producers want Howard Stern to replace Simon Cowell have raised questions about just how much Fox would be willing to pay to snag the King of All Media to join the peasants down in "Judges' Row".

Top 10 reasons Howard Stern should join American Idol

Howard Stern has been raking in $100 million per year as part of his five year contract with Sirius XM. While Simon Cowell reportedly pulled in a measly $36 million in 2008, his 2009 salary shot up to somewhere between $100-$144 million, according to the Huffington Post.

Howard Stern recently called Simon Cowell's decision to jump ship at American Idol a "brilliant business move". "It's a money move," said Stern.

Howard Stern doesn't sound like he's interested in taking anything less than a Lehman Brothers-sized bonus for his brutal critiques of Hollywood hopefuls. When Howard Stern discussed a recent 'major TV network' deal (presumably for American Idol) on Wednesday's Howard Stern Show, he told listeners:

"Recently i was approached by a major TV network to take over a TV show and leave here and do that next year--and I did turn it down," but then quickly added. "I started to entertain it and think about it, and then I probably think my demands are pretty heavy and they were attempting to negotiate and I said 'you don't have to'."

Silly American Idol producers. Kings of all Media don't negotiate--they decree, and are obeyed--or else.

He would be hilarious on there, and definitely as straight-talking as Simon or more, but Simon's a music producer. Would Stern have enough expertise?

He would cost a lot, as they would lose all the viewers they have and only gain the Stern fanatics. The show would go off the air before the season was half over.
