Alex Brink was re-signed by the Texans Tuesday (houstontexans.com)
As expected, the Texans re-signed Alex Brink today to pick up the #3 QB reps for an injured Rex Grossman.
Grossman, who injured a hamstring in the preseason opener against Kansas City, will be assessed later this week to see how much time he will miss according to head coach Gary Kubiak.
Early assessments estimated Grossman's return at anywhere from 4-6 weeks which would seriously jeopardize any chance he had to make the 53 man roster.
The Texans also signed backup fullback Jonathan Evans today to replace Boomer Grigsby who was placed on waived-injured status.
Evans, who will be 28 years old in October, has bounced around the league as a practice squad/preseason depth player for several years but has never made a regular season roster. According to Will Flaherty of houstontexans.com, the addition of Evans will not change the playing time picture at fullback by tight end James Casey.
As speculated here, the Texans also placed Stanley McClover on waived injured status today. As reported yesterday at that same link, Troy Nolan was waived-injured and special teams player/linebacker Khary Campbell was added to the 80 man roster.
To close, I'd like to clarify 'waived-injured' status since there seems to be some confusion about what it means.
When a player is placed on waived-injured status, he has to pass through waivers and can be claimed by another team. If the player is not claimed by another team, the player reverts to the original team's injured reserve (IR) list and will receive full pay for that season if an injury settlement is not reached or is not a desired option. The player does not count against the preseason or regular season roster limit.
An injury settlement and outright release is always an option but that would have to be negotiated and would depend on a player's contract and health.
Troy Nolan has a 4 year contract. Boomer Grigsby was signed through 2010, and Stanley McClover was signed through 2009.
