Texans report card may surprise you

My Texans 'stoplight chart' has been updated through Week 5 and can be viewed here.

What may be surprising to some is the amount of red decreasing and the emergence of the first green square of the season immediately following the most devastating choke job in Texans (and almost Houston) football history.

Actually the Texans played their best football game this season -- and maybe any season - against the Colts.  The problem is that football games aren't 56 minutes long.

The team improved in three categories: Run blocking, RB/FB performance and Getting off the field, while getting worse in one category (Takeaway/Giveaway).  Sage's overall performance - minus 4 minutes of boneheadedness - saved the QB performance measure from going 9-1-1.

As long as there's less red on the chart, things are headed in the right direction - despite the most important measure of wins and losses.

I feel a lot better today than I did Sunday night and Monday.  Being a fan is weird that way.  It's time to start looking at the Phins...

Extras:

  • In another positive note, Steve Slaton and Mario Williams are up for league honors again.  Vote for them here.
  • And a big Happy B-day and Gig-em goes out to Kelli!

    From my column...

Think about it. Sage Rosenfels was three-and-a-half quarters into a game that could have earned him a starting job in the league. Instead, he'll go down as the second coming of Joe Pisarcik.

It certainly was a setback for him, but I don't think it dooms his chances as a starter as long as he can overcome it mentally and continue to play like he did prior to the two fumbles - which was outstanding.

If his head will allow him to get past this, he's still one of the strongest backup QBs in the league and a capable spot starter. He'll get more opportunites this season for sure. We shall see what happens.

    Thx for the comment.
