Hightower (Houston Texans photo)
Jason Reid of The Washington Post reported today that former Texans assistant coach Tim Hightower has joined the Redskins as assistant coach/special teams.
Hightower was a special teams assistant with the Texans in 2008, helping coach Joe Marciano with game preparation and practice. Hightower left the Texans last February to coach wide receivers at the University of Minnesota.
In 2006-07, Hightower was a defensive assistant for the Texans, working with Marciano and former defensive backs coach Jon Hoke.
Before joining the Texans coaching staff, Hightower worked for two years on the business side of the Texans operations as a sales intern and corporate sales event coordinator.
Hightower is the second former Texans assistant coach to follow Kyle Shanahan to D.C. Matt LaFleur left Houston last month to join the Redskins staff as quarterbacks coach.
It looks like young Kyle is building his support staff just in case he becomes a head coach some day. LaFleur and Hightower are now well positioned for the future, provided the Redskins turn things around under the elder Shanny.

Who cares? Really!!!
@JohnB_in_ATX, I found it newsworthy because Hightower is a local and he becomes the third former Texans assistant to join the Skins - a team on the Texans 2010 schedule. Sorry you didn't appreciate the information, but just because you didn't find it interesting doesn't mean someone else won't.
I do find it interesting. Its just like the lower echelon of news. Today, Wright joined them too.
Where are the Redskins fans that will get on Shanahan for hiring people with Houston connections like the guys of Houston that point out the Denver connections? truetexansfan.wordpress.com/
If Houston is Denver South, D.C is now Denver East.
Last year everyone thought that Wright was the second coming and he lasted a year and got fired. Maybe he was reason that Kris Brown couldn't kick, Mario's numbers were down and Slaton hurt his neck. Where are all the Wright supporters now? Why did he get fired!???
@RoR, I would like to know more about why Wright got fired too, but I don't recall 'everyone' considering him the second coming... he got a chance ... it was his first to be a head S&C coach for an NFL team and obviously it wasn't good enough for Smithiak. Another question might be 'why hasn't Dan Riley been hired by another team?' Another might be 'what's Cedric's philosophy?'
Riley turned down the Green Bay job last year that was offered to him within 48 hours of getting fired and told a reporter in Milwaukee he was retiring unless the perfect job opened up. I have seen the guy working out at a local gym and the guy is RIPPED and he ain't 21. In the Examiner last year, it was written ( by Alan, I think) that Wright was going to do "muscle confusion" and introduce new philosophies. I think muscle confusion is from the PX 90 dude. How do you get fired after one year???
RoR: I wrote an article that summarized Wright's philosophies as described by Brooke Bentley and a few players. It's linked in my current NFL calendar article in the off-season workout item.
I've met Riley and heard him speak a few times. Being 'ripped' doesn't guarantee NFL success and that's about the only knock I can recall on Riley - too much strength training and not enough flexibility training. I thought it was odd that Riley had his players stretch before practice for all those years and then all of a sudden in his last year he went to warm up before practice and jumped on the anti-stretch bandwagon. If another job as S&C coach in the NFL wasn't the 'perfect job,' then maybe it was time for him to retire and just talk on radio with Roberta.
I'd be interested why Wright got fired too. Why don't you ask around and see what you can find out? Obviously whatever he was doing didn't fit. It's not unusual for an assistant to get a shot and get fired-at least he got a shot.
Been at a seminar where Riley spoke. He was asked about the streching and injury stuff. What was interesting was that he changes his philosphy when the science dictates it and not just because it is popular. Players were streching at the Texans with Riley. Why don't you call him and ask for an interview
Got something to say?
