Lots of gems in Texans-Titans post game quotes

The best quotes of the week usually come during the post game pressers.  The players are still pumping high levels of adrenaline through their veins and the comments are always more interesting than the dry, rehearsed, and cliche filled telecons that come every Wednesday.

What follows are a few of my favorites of the week and what I think about it.  You can read most of those quotes right here, courtesy of houstontexans.com.

Gary Kubiak:  "We got [in] a nasty, physical football game. We’re willing to play that way all day long and find a way to win like that."

Good to hear - finally.  The bully will continue to antagonize you until you punch him in the nose.  Next time he mouths off, do it again.

Kubiak: (on the play of the Texans’ defense) “I’m just very proud of the job (defensive coordinator) Richard (Smith) and his staff have done and the effort that we’re giving on that side of the ball right now.”

Translation:  If you are still on the "fire Richard Smith" bandwagon, it's time to accept the reality of the past four weeks.

Kubiak: (on if in the locker room at Indianapolis he said, “Who’s with me?”) “I never said, ‘Who’s with me?’ That’s just a big, big story. That thing’s grown. What I said after the game was, .... Are you guys in?’ And they said, ‘We’re all in.’”

Okay, Gary.  You said "are you guys in?"  The players took it as "are you with me?"   Same difference.  It's the turning point (if what we're seeing isn't an aberration)

DeMeco Ryans (on Chris Johnson and LenDale White's combined 91 yards on 21 carries):  "We turned smash and dash into smush and crush."

Funny stuff, and accurate.

Matt Schaub: (on the helmet-to-helmet shot he took today ...) “It didn’t bother me. It was a little guy who hit me.”

Take that Finnegan, you annoying little worm.

Titans LB Keith Bulluck: (on how Andre Johnson and Steve Slaton affected the game)  “Slaton didn’t do anything.  Slaton busted that run at the end of the game and we pretty much had him in check.  To tell you the truth, I don’t think their running game hurt us at all today.”

Not until his two runs for 46 yards secured the win in the final two minutes when the outcome of the game was in the balance.  If Slaton did nothing, then Chris Johnson did half of nothing.

Titans CB Cortland Finnegan (on his costly penalties) “I’m going to play the game the way it’s supposed to be played at a high level so we’ll worry about that stuff on Monday, Tuesday.”

So committing two costly personal fouls is the way the game is supposed to be played?  Did you go to school with Vince Young or something?

Finnegan (on the helmet-to-helmet penalty between him and Texans QB Matt Schaub)  “If I did I was just giving him a quick, you know - kiss, welcoming him back to Houston you know from the Oilers. So that is about all that is.”

In my best Sen. Lloyd Bentsen voice.... Finnegan, [you annoying little worm].  I was a fan of the Houston Oilers for longer than you've been alive.  I know the Houston Oilers.  You've never played for the Houston Oilers nor are you qualified to speak on their behalf.  So shut yo mouf.

Finnegan, and numerous other players, fans and media types from Possum Holler:  "It was their Super Bowl."

Um, no it really wasn't, so keep your smug remarks to yourself.  It was a big game for the Texans because they knew they could play with you but they had to prove that they could beat you.  And what better way to beat you than when you're 12-1 and trying to clinch home field throughout.

It was a big game for the Texans because many of our young players weren't on the roster the last time the Texans beat you in '04.  It was a big game for the Texans because you are a team that must be beat in order to compete in the division and frankly we are sick and tired of losing to you and hearing your crap.  It was a big game for fans because a lot of them hate your owner and find it humorous that some Houstonians are still running around wearing the jersey of your backup quarterback.  That's so 2006.

I'm sensing a gradual purge of that element of bandwagoners around here anyway.  No, it wasn't our Super Bowl (at least it didn't feel like one) but hopefully it's another brick in the wall to getting there.  And if you still insist that it was our Super Bowl, then all I can say is at least we won ours.

Titans DL Jevon Kearse (on how QB Matt Schaub responded when they knocked him down) “He got up one time and was like, ‘Good job, freak. Good job 90.’ I was like, ‘I don’t want to hear any good job. I want the ball.’

You're learning, Matt.  Gotta love reverse head games.

Titans backup QB Vince Young (on what he is doing on the sidelines since it is the first time he has had that role)  “Just being a leader on the sidelines."

Probably not what you want to hear from a three year veteran who was a #3 pick overall.
