As many of you know, Rachel Alexandra won the Preakness on Saturday May 16, 2009, with Mine That Bird coming close behind in second place. I got to watch the race in a bar called the Blue Fish in Ft Lauderdale as the opening ceremony to my vacation in southern Florida.
It was great to watch the race with other race fans all cheering on their favorite horse to win. My half eaten slice of key lime pie sat on my plate, along with my sweating drink as my eyes were glued to the flat screen television above the bar. The race was very exciting as Mine That Bird ran an almost identical race to his performance in the Kentucky Derby – if only the track for the Preakness had been just a little bit longer he might have overtaken Rachel Alexandra for the win.
We will see what the Belmont Stakes brings us on June 6, 2009. It should prove to be another exciting race as the third jewel in the Triple Crown, despite the fact that the first two jewels went to two different horses.
