'The Wolf Man' gets bumped again

The Wolfman
The Wolfman (2009): Universal

Universal announced Tuesday, July 28, the official release date of their big budget remake of the classic horror film, The Wolf Man, has been bumped back yet again. The new official release date will be February 12, 2010. The film was originally set to be released April 3, 2009 of this year. It was subsequently moved to November 6, and will now hit theaters February of next year.

Universal’s decision to push back the release date again, as well as The Wolf Man's film’s noticeable absence from last week’s San Diego Comic-Con, has raised serious concerns. February has long been considered Hollywood’s dumping grounds for bad movies. According to Claudia Eller of the LA Times, “Universal's marketing and distribution chief, Adam Fogelson, said the latest release change was motivated by two factors: to take advantage of a potentially bigger box office weekend, and to have more visual effects completed in time for marketing materials. The first batch of effects will be featured in the movie's upcoming trailer, which will accompany Quentin Tarantino's ‘Ingluorious Basterds’ when it's released Aug. 21.”

According to The Wolf Man’s official website, “Benicio Del Toro stars as Lawrence Talbot, a haunted nobleman lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father (Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins), Talbot sets out to find his brother…and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself.” Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) stars as Gwen Conliffe, the brother’s fiancée. The Wolf Man was directed by Joe Johnston and features make-up effects by Rick Baker.
