Teen Wolf (1985)
The Hollywood Reporter’s Nellie Andreeva reported that MTV has requested a pilot order for a TV series based on 1985’s Teen Wolf. This news comes only days after Fox announced they are working on a TV series based on the 1989 classic Heathers.
The original Teen Wolf starred Michael J. Fox as Scott Howard, a teenager who discovers he happens to be a werewolf. Inevitably, Scott manages to parlay his new found werewolf powers into becoming a high school basketball star. The film spawned a sequel, Teen Wolf Too, which starred Jason Bateman.
Liz Gateley, a senior vice president at MTV told Andreeva, "It has a fresh take and is very different from the original…It has more of an 'American Werewolf in Paris' feel to it. It's a dramatic thriller with two best friends in the center who provide a great comedy element: They are two very relatable characters on the outer circles of popular cliques." The newest version was written by Jeff Davis, the creator of Criminal Minds.
Interestingly enough, MTV won’t be the first to bring Teen Wolf to TV. From 1986 through 1988 there was a Saturday morning Teen Wolf cartoon. Check out a clip from the cartoon below.
