The Twilight Saga: New Moon/ Summit Entertainment, 2009
The second installment of the Twilight series was released this week. Somewhere, somehow, there are undoubtedly people overjoyed by this fact. Oregonians will appreciate that parts of the film were shot right in here the state and New Moon was the first movie filmed in Oregon to open at number one at the box office, raking in an estimated $140,700,000 over the weekend. Seeing ones home state on the big screen and being able to point out locations you know is always a thrill. When that's the best part of a movie, however, you've got problems. Such was the case with the first Twilight film
Admittedly, I have not seen the second installment in the Twilight Saga, nor do I plan to. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer my vampires fangy, blood sucking, and smart enough to realize that there's nothing at all sexy about repeating high school twenty billion times. Edward and Bella had less chemistry than Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker, which makes it incredibly tough to buy into their little soap opera high school romance. The first film was so flat, dull, and contrived that not even the guys from RiffTrax could make it watchable. Given all of that and the fact that sequels are generally worse than the first movie in a series, well... New Moon doesn't really leave one much to hope for.
Unless, that is, your soul reason for seeing it is because you're a card carrying member of the Cult of Robert Pattison, or because you want to see how much Taylor Lautner bulked up, then maybe you won't leave the theater wondering why you didn't just stay home and watch Buffy instead.
But hey! First number one movie at the box office filmed in Oregon! That's pretty cool, no matter what the movie itself is like.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon was not filmed in OR. It was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. Fact checker, anyone?
Amanda is right. Also, last year's "Twilight" (which WAS filmed in Oregon) opened in the number one spot. So "New Moon" wouldn't be the "first," anyway.
According to the IMDB.com, Portland, OR was among the filming locations for New Moon.
