After holding the top spot at the overseas box office for the last month, the reign of The Twilight Saga: New Moon is set to come to an end this week with the release of James Cameron's Avatar.
New Moon is expected to gross $22.3 million this weekend in foreign sales, gathered from 9,163 screens. That will bring its box office total overseas to a whopping $358.7 million.
With the foreign circuit set to roll on Avatar, the 3D epic from director James Cameron, beginning Wednesday on 16,550 screens, look for The Twilight Saga: New Moon to drop back to second place.
Summit Entertainment, the films distributors, have nothing to be disappointed in though. With New Moon's month-long rule at the foreign box office, that brought its total worldwide gross to $626.1 million, and firmly secured it as one of the top grossing films of the year.
With The Twilight Saga showing no signs of slowing down popularity wise, look for similar results next year when the third film in the epic series, Eclipse, is released. With that film being shown on not only regular screens, but in IMAX theaters as well, Summit Entertainment is sure to be all smiles come the end of 2010.

Just goes to show who has the cash. Teenage girls.
This story appeals to more than the teenage girl I'm in my late 20's and thoroughly enjoyed each book and movie . I'm looking foward to the future movies. So there is a wide fanbase here and I think that says alot
I decided to read Twilight a few weeks ago, and much to my surprise, really enjoyed it. My wife's a big fan, and we went to see New Moon. I'm reading it now, and the book is much better. The film is very, very rushed. Lots of the character development that makes me like the books just isn't there. I'm told the first one is pretty much the same.
