The end of yet another year brings lots of information our way, not the least of which is the videos that were watched most online in 2009.
Over the course of the past 365 days those brooding vampires are tops yet again as the trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon was the most watched online video of the year, bringing in 592 million views.
With that many views, one is left to wonder if it was only the trailer that was being viewed on the internet. There are many websites out there that host online movies, some showing up just hours after they hit the theater. The top grossing film at the box office this year was Transformers 2, not New Moon, and with the bad word of mouth those robots were getting just days after their release, it's a surprise that they remained tops domestically even with all the hype and anticipation surrounding the second Twilight film. Sure, New Moon wasn't released until November, but Transformers? Really?
As kids these days become more web savvy and learn that they don't have to spend their hard(ly) earned allowance to see the latest flick, online piracy continues to soar. Why go to the movies when you can watch it with your friends in your bedroom? Even with the shaky camera work and low quality imaging, it's tempting to many people, and has become big business for others.
Regardless, the folks at Summit Entertainment can rest easy at least knowing that The Twilight Saga: New Moon trailer was tops, legally. With the trailer beating out the likes of Lady GaGa and Susan Boyle, there's no telling what 2010 will bring as The Twilight Saga: Eclipse prepares to hit theaters and IMAX this June.

Imagine how many teenage girls when to see this at the movies, then came home and downloaded it, burned five copies and handed them out to their friends at school. Ugh.
Ya, I should really not be surprised by this but still. Just...Out of all the YouTube and pro trailers. Wow.
