Charges against a 22-year old Chicago woman accused of videotaping part of The Twilight Saga: New Moon have been dropped, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Samantha Tumpach was arrested November 28, and faced a felony charge of illegally copying 3 minutes of the latest film in The Twilight Saga with her digital camera in Rosemont, a small suburb of Chicago. Tumpach has said that she was actually recording her sister's 29th birthday party, and was not trying to record the movie.

Cook County prosecutors dropped the charges on Friday, after making the announcement in court.

The films director, Chris Weitz, had even come to Tumpach's defense, saying that "the case seems to me terribly unfair and I would like to do what I can to address this."

The charges were not filed by Summit Entertainment, the films distributors, but rather by the Muvico Theater in Chicago. If convicted, Tumpach could have spent up to 3-years in prison.

To date, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, has grossed more than $580 million at the box office. The next film in the series, Eclipse, is slated to hit theaters and IMAX June 30, 2010.

Taping her sister's birthday party? And she just so happened to get about 3 minutes of the worst movie of the year on tape? Oy vey. Desperation leads men to do ridiculous things. I'm glad they dropped the charges.

This chain should be boycotted for being unreasonably overzealous.
I won't go there anymore, I don't do business with companies that treat their customers like this.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Like Jen said, three minutes is nothing compared to the full, high-quality versions that are pirated, then uploaded to the internet.

I'm glad the charges were dropped against her.

Everyone knows you can't film during a movie. How stupid is she? She should have been charged with singing during a movie as well.
