According to SpolierTV.com, the Platinum Dunes remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street is going through some re-shoots, adding new cast members to the film.
The movie, which stars Jackie Earle Hailey as Freddy Kruger, is set to be released April 30th, 2010, but the re-shoots aren't expected to delay the date any later than that. The production just finished a round of test-screenings in Los Angeles and while no numbers have been released, whatever makes the story flow more seamlessly is always a good thing.
This will be the fourth big remake from Platinum Dunes. In 2003, they did The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror in 2005, The Hitcher in 2007, and just this year they released the re-boot of the Friday the 13th franchise. The production company is hoping that they can continue to bank on the current trend in horror cinema, which is geared towards re-makes and reviving old franchises with more sequels.
A Nightmare on Elm Street has already been receiving advanced praise, based off the teaser trailer that has been released and is now circulating the internet. While the re-shoots the film is going through aren't expected to take long and just deal with a minor scene, it's a big chance for whoever is cast to get their faces in what could possibly be the biggest horror release of 2010.

A Nightmare on Elm Street holds a special place in my heart, as it was originally written by Wes Craven who was a Humanities professor at Clarkson College in my hometown of Potsdam, NY. He drew the name Elm Street from an actual street bearing the same name that ran through the downtown shopping area of Potsdam. (Just thought I'd share that!)
I don't know if I'll like the remake, but it does bring back fond memories of my youth, when scary movies were more about "cheeze", and less about horror-porn. But I have hopes that this will do the original justice.
Like Ms. Robin, A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of my all time favorite horror movies, and while I'm intrigued by a re-do, I am also disappointed that they keep rehashing my favorite horror films. I will watch it and give it a fair shot. I did like Rob Zombie's Halloween redeux, so there's hope.
Fooey on Platinum Dunes for promoting so much unoriginality.
I will let you know if I like the remake or not..
