who is Dinky Dawson, and why is he in a horror column?

Ir's not often that a horror column is about a person named "Dinky." Innovator and visionary in the field of sound, Dinky Dawson’s genius has contributed to the success of many of the most prominent artists in the music industry. Dawson worked on design and operation of WEM equipment, which was used by all British groups of the sixties era (e.g., Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix). He was on the Apple rooftop when the Beatles played their last live concert together.

Born in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England, Dawson’s life has been dedicated to music, and his accomplishments in the field of live rock and roll are legendary. Realizing the importance of technical production in this new music, he modified the band’s equipment and became Fleetwood Mac ’s tour manager and sound engineer for their European and American tours, concerts, radio and TV shows.

Dinky is one of the special guests at the November 28-29 "BEAT expo 2009" music/celebrity convention in Stamford, CT at the Downtown Stamford Holiday Inn (Dinky's guest appearance at BEAT expo 2009 arranged courtesy of Joe Viglione of GEMM). He will be on hand to meet fans, pose for photos and sign autographs (no charge for autographs).

Dinky confesses that he's not the biggest horror fan, but the original Haunting "scared the crap" out of him. Here are his picks for fave fright flicks...

DINKY DAWSON'S TERRORBLE TOP 10 LIST OF FRIGHT FLICKS

1)       Gremlins: Simple rules and they still can’t follow them…
2)       Leprechaun 1- 6: So bad it is good. What I don’t understand about horror movies, why do the start out with Roman numerals and then switch to Arabic numerals after V(5)?
3)       Poltergeist: Creepy little girl…  Creepy little woman…
4)       The Thing (1982): Purists will say the original, but I like special effects.
5)       Nightmare on Elm Street: The first one was the scariest. Everyone has to sleep!!!
6)       Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1971): The scene where they cut off the chicken’s head…  Scary because it comes out of no where!!! (La la la… Oh a nice little boat ride… What the heck?!?!?!?!)
7)       The Shining (1980): So many classic lines. Also again, creepy little girls…
8)       The Sentinel: Not sure why, but this one scared the bejesus out of me (whatever a bejesus is…)
9)       Prince of Darkness: Has a little of everything - Zombie street people, hints at time travel, religion, science… and Satan in a jar…  (Or was it God in the jar?)
10)   The Evil Dead: Campy fun. It is just so all over the map…
