Black Devil Doll plays at The Oaks Theater

While The Oaks Theater’s Moonlit Matinee Film Festival has boasted, and continues to boast, a number of horror flicks this season (take note: Dan O’Bannon’s Return of the Living Dead is playing July 31st & August 1st –don’t miss seeing this classic on the big screen!), I felt this film deserved to be singled out. Black Devil Doll is described on the Oaks’ site as “Chucky meets Dolemite.” I’m really at a loss as to how anything could sound more appealing, or, most certainly, intriguing. Make way for a unique, satirical spin on modern Blaxploitation.

Black Devil Doll is an evil creature summoned by a “young, moist, buxom teen vixen” after a night of occult activity. The site’s synopsis asks a number of questions to tantalize its prospective audience, including uncertainty regarding the preservation of the virginities of our innocent protagonist and her “super-hot, half-nude” friends, but perhaps most interestingly: “How much Caucasian blood will have to be shed to stop....the BLACK DEVIL DOLL?!!” How much, indeed?

Be warned; the official site cautions that this film contains “totally awesome” scenes of murder and rape. It likely is what it seems to be—six shades of exploitation—and as a horror viewer, one should take from that what they will. You might want to see this, you might not. You can judge for yourself with the Black Devil Doll trailer (warning--can be considered offensive):

Interesting note: writer/producer Shawn Lewis is associated with Rotton Cotton, which, most horror fans will know, supplies our horror t-shirts needs with a quality product (to that, I can testify).

Black Devil Doll is not—as the trailer claims—for children, the elderly, or the easily offended, but you can see it at The Oaks Theater along with Dolemite as a double feature, July 24 and July 25, starting with Dolemite at 10:00pm. Both screenings will be attended by the filmmakers, to whom you can either heap your praise or vent your spleen.

Well, it certainly would work as a skit, but I'm not sure I wanna spend more than an hour on that...

You would if you have a sense of humor. I've seen it, it's amazing! One of the funniest movies I've seen in a few years.
