The two faces of a suspected killer Victor Alvarez
A lot of America knows Victor Alvarez as the man LAPD arrested earlier this month for a 27 year old cold case of murder involving an elderly woman.

LAPD has a match on a finger print and DNA from Victor Alvarez in the murder August 16, 1982, of 65 year old Hazel Hughes.

LAPD has said her apartment was burglarized, she was raped and murdered. They got a match to finger print and went to New York obtained Alvarez's DNA and returned and arrested him.

This all sounds like a slam dunk and it might be. If the DNA match is from a "Rape Swab" than Alvarez is going to have a pretty hard time convincing anyone he's innocent.

There are two completely different faces to Victor Alvarez. There is the suspect as LAPD see him and then there is the side his wife Lisa her children and his friends and neighbors in New York see.

These two people could not be more polar opposites.

His friend Robert Finch an exclusive interview said he's known Victor for at least nine years and call him a choir boy. He said Victor is a great family man that just could not be responsible such a crime.

His wife Lisa in exclusive interview said her husband is the kindness most decent man she has ever known. She said Victor and her have been together for nine years. She says her dead beat ex-husband is not a father to his kids Victor is there, was there for them.

She indicates Victor took the kids to the park the zoo, when one of the boys was sick Victor rushed him to the hospital. He was also doing everything with the kids helping them with home work. He kept the oldest boy off drugs and got him into college.

She can't believe what they are saying about Victor it was just in his character to be like that. She describes him as very loving husband and father.

While she can't believe that the Victor she knows and loves could have done this she acknowledges that sometimes people hide bad things from other people.

She wants people to know that if somehow Victor did this horrible thing (s) she and her children were not a part of it.

She said some people have not been very kind to her or her children since Victor’s arrest. Her and her children should not be victimized for what he allegedly did 18 years before she met him.

She cites the example of the LAPD officer that came to her apartment the day Victor was arrested. She describes him as very rude.

They did not have a search warrant but she gave them consent to search. All the while the LAPD officer yelled at her how come she didn't know victor had lived in LA.

How come she didn't know he was a monster that murdered and old woman in a most horrific way.

She said the officer just went on and on. She said the New York Officers were polite and one of them called the next day to apologize for the LAPD officer's conduct.

If that occurred as she reported than any LAPD officer working cold case homicides should be a seasoned professional veteran. As such he should be intelligent enough to know that if they have the right guy this guy would not have told his wife anything about any of this. As such her and her children are huge victims as well.

Again it’s unknown if any of this true, however she seemed very honest and frank about everything. She also didn't complain about any of the other officers as you would expect if she was just looking to dog the officers.

“It was as if the LAPD officer was trying to be all tough to impress the New York officers.”

If what she is says about a New York officer calling the next day to say how sorry they were that she was treated that way, it looks as if his efforts to impress didn't work so well.

Now as stated at the beginning if the DNA was from the vaginal swabs than Victor is in for a rough time.

If they are as Mrs. Alvarez was led to believe taken from a finger print which many departments are doing now then they better hope they can produce DNA from a rape kit.

If they fail to do that Victor will likely be acquitted as he's admitted he used to help the victim with her groceries and had been in the apartment delivery grocery's to her many times.

Time will tell and Victor will have a trial where it will be determined if he is guilty or innocent.

The reality is that no matter the outcome Lisa and her children are not guilty of anything.

If it occurred and the LAPD officers parting shot when he shouted at Lisa "The next time you decide to hook up with a man and bring him home, you might want to make sure he not a killer!"

Since it took LAPD 27 years to get to a point they had enough to arrest him, just how was this woman supposed know?

If this occurred the way this woman has described this officer needs a swift kick in the butt by his department for making his department look like horse’s behinds.

It’s fine to celebrate the arrest in a case this old, it not alright to have fun tormenting innocent victim in the process.

Frequently some officers forget they are not the jury, judge, or the executioner, they are simply there to supply the evidence no more and no less.

I'm not writing for the examiner anymore the articles I wrote here was my last one. I wish you all well and hope the evidence clears your friend if he is innocent. If he's guilty it will come out that way and he'll have to pay. but you're write his wife should be treated fairly and with respect as she has only known him for 9 years. Good luck I may try to write more on this as it moves along I'll be in touch.

If you are not going to write for the examiner then is there anywhere else that your articles can be found? Do you have a personal web page where you post your opinions or write news articles? I had just discovered your column a week or so ago...will we be able to follow you anywhere else? I like the subjects you choose to write about and your style of writing, too. If you disappear, I guess I missed the boat. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and a New Year full of good fortune. Best of luck to you.

That meeting with Alvarez's wife was recorded. The LAPD investigators were nothing short of professional . Anything to the contrary is absurd. You jumped on the bandwagon just like every other writer looking to make a name for himself. Obviously there was no research done to verify this information. GREAT JOB.
