Free homeschooling book: Update

Earlier this month I wrote about a free homeschooling book (you can read it here) and I promised to post an update once it was received.

I can't say I had high expectations. The book was free and self published (not that there is anything wrong with that) and there were not any reviews for it on Amazon so when I received it I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.

Homeschooling and Loving It is a well thought out and put together book.  It has some sections that are fill in the blank forms with prompts to help both parents and children discover their learning styles and their goals. The book offers tips on coping with real struggles such as money management, homeschooling children of different ages, creating structure, time management and organization.

While this is a nicely written book about homeschooling I would only recommend it to new  homeschooling parents or those who are considering homeschooling.

While Homeschooling and Loving It does have tips and suggestions that are good there is not a lot of ''meat'' to this book so more seasoned homeschoolers will not be able to glean much from it. A good example of this is the section about grade level expectation the author suggests the reader should ''Google'' it instead of providing that information in the book.  Another example is when the author speaks of options after high school and states ''the military is not as homeschooling-friendly as it used to be.''  The reader is then left to ponder what  that means and what if anything can be done about it.

If you are new to homeschooling or are considering going down that path you will probably enjoy this book and find it useful. If you don't mind paying the $5.00 for shipping you will most likely be pleased with this free book.
