Feeling hungry?  Probably the majority of us in the surrounding St. Louis area have the ability to walk to the pantry or fridge and prepare something to fill our hungry stomachs when we need to eat.  But, many others do not have the means to purchase food for their families.  It's estimated that one out of every 10 Americans are on the verge of or entered into hunger being affected by what is called "hunger insecurity."  With local job layoffs, many people have found themselves in a situation they never thought would happen - The choice between buying food or paying a house payment.  And, for millions of people around the world, there is no choice.

World Food Day is October 16, 2009.  In an effort to raise awareness of what hunger looks like in our local community,  The faces of hunger has launched a video contest for anyone 25 years of age and under.

What a perfect opportunity for homeschoolers to get involved.  Creating a video would create a great teaching opportunity in not only film making but in social and cultural studies, studies in nutrition and economics, etc.  It would also be a volunteer project in which the whole family can take part.  You could even win the $5,000.00 grand prize.

But, hurry.  All videos must be uploaded and submitted by October 15, 2009 at 8:59 p.m. PST to qualify.

Find out more at gotspot website.  Also visit Palms of life to find out more on how you can donate to fight world-wide hunger.
