Central Arizona Project (CAP) invites homeschoolers and students from public, private, charter and online schools to enter the H2O4U scholarship program. This sounds like one of the easiest ways to compete for college funding, since no essay is required! All you need to do is register online and read information and complete some activities dealing with water. You will learn about careers in CAP, water resources and processing, as well as future plans in this industry.
All students who complete the activities will be entered into a drawing for the prize money, and a total of six students will each receive a $1000 scholarship.

Central Arizona Project (CAP) announces the launch of the 2009-10 version of its H2O4U scholarship program.
H2O4U teaches middle and high school students about Arizona's critical Colorado River water supply. CAP supports water leadership, education, research, planning and innovation to preserve and sustain Arizona's critical water supplies. The Colorado River water provided by CAP is the principal source of renewable water for cities, businesses, agriculture and Native American communities in Pima, Pinal and Maricopa counties.
Program Details:
- H2O4U teaches students about Arizona's critical Colorado River water supply, water careers and safety.
- The activities can be completed in the classroom or by individual students.
- All students in 6th-12th grade are eligible to enter.
- Students who complete all the activities can be entered into a drawing to win a $1,000 college scholarship. One scholarship will be awarded to the winning middle school and high school student in Maricopa, Pima and Pinal counties.
- The winning students' schools receive a new, state-of-the-art computer and flat-screen monitor. (This does not apply to home schools.)
- Teachers can use the program in class or encourage students to complete the activity outside the classroom.
- Teachers have access to a wealth of resources year-round, as well as optional lesson plans, which can be customized to meet their subject matter and other needs.
- The curriculum is correlated to Arizona state educational standards for 6-8 and 9-12 grades, including math, social studies, science, reading, writing, educational technology, workplace skills and visual arts.
- Teachers with the most students who complete the activities will win a $50 gift card.
- Students and teachers can download the program anytime
- Students who complete the activity have until March 26, 2010 to be entered into the scholarship drawing.
- This is the fourth year the H2O4U scholarship has been offered.
"We heard from teachers that having H2O4U wholly online made it difficult for some students to complete the work. So now, the activities can be either completed online or downloaded and printed with just the answers reported online," said Crystal Thompson, CAP community relations representative.
"Because we're also keeping the scholarship activity open longer, we're hoping even more students can participate in this fun way to learn about water history, conservation, careers and the critical issues related to protecting this precious desert resource."
